Three People Arrested over Choueifat Bombing

State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr ordered on Wednesday the arrest of three people over Choueifat bombing, state-run National News Agency reported.

According to NNA, the Judge referred the three suspects to the Army Intelligence Directorate for further questioning.

The news agency said that among the three detained men was the taxi driver, who transported the suicide bomber to Chouiefat.

On Monday, a suicide bomber blew himself up on board a minibus south of Beirut Monday killing himself and wounding two people.

The blast is the fifth to hit Lebanon this year, and comes after at least four people were killed on Saturday in a suicide bombing in the eastern town of Hermel.

Choueifat lies south of Beirut, not far from the suburbs of the city, which have been targeted in multiple bomb attacks in past months.

Explosions in Lebanon have created a climate of fear in the country, with residents increasingly nervous about unfamiliar cars and certain neighborhoods.

Many have targeted strongholds of Hizbullah, which has drawn the ire of Sunni extremist groups in part because of its role fighting alongside the regime in Syria.

Thumb ice-man 05 February 2014, 15:10

Nope.... nothing as of yet. They're still looking for the license plate and trying to identify the vehicle's color. Soon Army Intelligence will have some good news though...

@terrorist I'm not even going to answer your question as I do not claim to know the answer. What I will say is this, everybody is somebody and calling people nobodies is not merely insulting but incredibly arrogant. No one's blood is worth more than anyone else's whether it be Hariri's Gemayel's or that innocent 16 year old kid. Anyone could have been a victim of those bombings and if it were a member of your family, I doubt you would use such language.

Loubnani: respect.

amazing that they have not managed to arrest the peacefully demonstrating civilian in front of the iranian embassy.

Missing imagine_1979 05 February 2014, 15:01

No they was not enough evidence despite the pictures taken on the spot, the armed forces present there... Guess why grandpierro...give it a shot...
And anyway nasrallah said that was an "on the spot act" (3afawiyeh) so pas grave...
Thx for ur comment grandpierro...at least people do remember hashem salman...

Thumb _mowaten_ 05 February 2014, 15:39

oh you mean the ones peacefully demonstrating with guns? where do we draw the line of "peacefulness" ? is it before or after one takes a gun out and opens fire?

embassy guards responding to gunshots would never be inculpated, anywhere.

Missing imagine_1979 05 February 2014, 17:30

Man u make it so conviniant, yes in a decent country a probe would have been lunched publicly, ambassador sumoned and so... But nice putting it in ambassy gards, so the guy who atacked the protesters with sticks ab beaten them up were just tourist passing by and all had diplomatic pasport.. There is a man killed on lebanese soil in front of cameras man.. It could have been ur brother, mine....
Man really u re acting like hezbos mouthpiece, be a litle reallistic...

Thumb _mowaten_ 05 February 2014, 18:05

listen, if you're so sure of that here's the deal, you have two choices:

either go in front of the american embassy, take a gun out and fire a few shots, and see what happens. (and if you survive it, you'll tell me if the american ambassador would be summoned. my guess is our president would be summoned there to apologize for your gunshots)

OR

go to any embassy in the world, like for example the iranian embassy in the US, and fire a few shots, and see if you survive, and if the embassy guards get inculpated.

Missing imagine_1979 05 February 2014, 18:24

Ambassadors have been sommomed in france for exemple for not treating well an employe, man stop ur james bond movies, we want a country or just some banan republic (not quoting geagea on this one but it is saddely the best adjectif for our country for now)....

Lebanese intelligence agencies have always been effective except during the time of syrian domination. Since 2005 they started regaining their strength. The problems is that the volume of threats is very large and they are not allowed to penetrate and effectively investigate the axis of muqawaama in Lebanon which has allowed for many unresolved cases.

Thumb _mowaten_ 05 February 2014, 15:36

yea. lol. i think they were at their most effective between 2005 and 2009, when m14 controlled the government and most of the key bodies.

their ashraf rifi managed an astounding 0% success rate over several years and 17 bombings. it must be a world record, not as good as the biggest tabbouleh plate, but still, i'm sure it could enter the Guinness book of records as worst performance. ever.

Thumb _mowaten_ 05 February 2014, 15:38

oh no wait, they managed 4 arrests! but i dont know if those count... bummer.
someone should ask the Guinness referees if arbitrary arrests based on false testimonies count.

Missing imagine_1979 05 February 2014, 15:04

Well some are happy about it, some wish the army can do more, u know hashem salman assassination in daylight taken in pictures... I wont go over all the exmples but u should know... And this might become confusing for some... Don't u think so?..

Thumb _mowaten_ 05 February 2014, 16:32

if i had to take a wild guess i'd say he knew too much, israel had him "disappeared".

Thumb _mowaten_ 05 February 2014, 16:34

the airport wasnt closed for anyone to "force" it open. there was threats by rifi to arrest jamil el sayyed, again, after he already spent 4 years in prison over false testimonies.

knowing that rifi doesnt care about the rule of law or the direct orders from his commanding superiors (remember when he mutinied against ziad baroud?), it's good that someone made sure this wouldnt happen.

Missing imagine_1979 05 February 2014, 18:29

Missing peace 05 February 2014, 22:38

when bombings hit hezbis or are targeted against them the army is quick to find a lead... but when it is the contrary they take their time if ever they find something...

double standards as usual and after they wonder why people hate hezbis? LOL

Missing people-power 06 February 2014, 05:18

Most of the arrests against Hizzie targets are done based on phone records, that is how they are caught.

And yet Momo and Fifi use the excuse that phone records are invalid when chasing the murderers and assassinators of M14 leaders. Go figure.
