Russia Warns Saudi against Giving Syria Rebels Missiles

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

Russia on Tuesday warned Saudi Arabia against supplying Syrian rebels with shoulder-launched missile launchers, saying such a move would endanger security across the Middle East and beyond.

The Russian foreign ministry said in a statement that it was "deeply concerned" by news reports that Saudi Arabia was planning to buy Pakistani-made shoulder-launched surface-to-air missiles and anti-tank systems for armed Syrian rebels based in Jordan.

It said that the aim was to alter the balance of power in a planned spring offensive by rebels on the regime of President Bashar Assad.

"If this sensitive weapon falls into the hands of extremists and terrorists who have flooded Syria, there is a great probability that in the end it will be used far from the borders of this Middle Eastern country," the foreign ministry said.

Long-existing tensions between Russia and Saudi Arabia have intensified further as a result of the Syria conflict, with Moscow standing by Assad but Riyadh offering open support for the rebels.

Russia is widely seen as Assad's last remaining major ally in a conflict that has left an estimated 140,000 people dead since it began as a peaceful uprising in March 2011.

Why does it all you M8 people always refer to rebels as head chopper? I'm sure that if you dig YouTube you will find hundreds of videos about the Syrian Troops & Shabiha slaughtering innocent men/women/children. Killing innocent people is the same whether you shoot them, hang them, cut them or whatever - same all sh*t, it's all innocent death at the end. The problem goes back all the way to the beginning, when the people wanted to have a peaceful revolution, Assad enjoyed watching the killing of all innocent people that demanded better lives for future. But when the foreign rebels came in to Syria and started killing the government troops, they got described as savages. I'm not saying they are not, but back to my comment, killing innocent people is ultimate savaging from whatever side. So kolo hawa ba2a all of you

When Ruszsia stops supplying Assad then maybe they can request that the Saudis refrain. The people are defenseless against that despot's barrel bombs and fighters. It would be nice to shoot them all down.

Thumb _mowaten_ 25 February 2014, 21:44

and anyone who believes KSA wants to promote democracy should be slapped as well.

Russia is losing ground and its threats are empty :)

as the decision is there to make the Syrian war last as much as possible, it seems like it is time to re balance the forces on the ground so that they all kill each other more.

Russia is the most hypocritical country in the world.

let russi worry now about Ukraine where their gas pipelines pass and more important: its major naval bases. they might be kicked out :)

It's ok for iran to give manpads to hizbos, to pakistan/usa to give to talibans, to venezuela to give to farcs.
It's ok for pro-assad to have some, but if they defect they cant have any, haram...

Thumb Kalzyturks 25 February 2014, 22:54

Iran & Saudi should keep there fingers out of other countries pies. Namely Lebanon & Syria.

If you are supporting one side over the other, really you are fighting a proxy war which has no end.

At the end its a lose/lose situation.

Thumb Kalzyturks 25 February 2014, 22:57

Let me put it this way.

If tomorrow France US or Britain did the same to the respected Christians I'm sure the current side receiving aide & support from Iran/Saudi will not be happy.

Thumb Kalzyturks 25 February 2014, 23:00

They might go as far as to calling it treason.

Thumb lebnanfirst 26 February 2014, 00:08

If Russia is so concerned about the ME, them it behoove a them to stop propping up the Syrian dictator and push him to cede power and leave. The Russian position and this latest statement are disingenuous at best.

Thumb cedre 26 February 2014, 01:07

Russia doesn't care about ME or ME's orthodox christians.
Putin is scared of qatari gas going to Turkey and Europe through Syria.
Assad refused the pipeline. Thats why he is still in damascus...
It's all about money, but inchaAllah Vlad will get owned like he did in Ukrain, Serbia,etc...

Thumb cedre 26 February 2014, 08:52

did I say that franky ?

Thumb scorpyonn 26 February 2014, 07:49

Just look at their attitude in Ukraine-- same as the one in Syria. Russia and Iran are both cancerous.

Thumb -phoenix1 26 February 2014, 13:44

This war is a war that will go on for a long time. It's a proxy war now, and very much so. So, the Saudis arm their Takfiri friends, then they make some headway, then the Russians and Iranians come in with arms to the regime, then it makes some headway too, and this is how it looks set to be, push an inch here, and lose an inch there, till when that Red Phone rings.

Thumb -phoenix1 26 February 2014, 13:45

And till now, no one has told these guys that you never snipe from rooftops, euft...
