Al-Mustaqbal Urges March 8 to Endorse Presidential Candidate

Al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc urged the March 8 camp to announce its candidate for the presidency so that he competes in the third round of the elections on Wednesday.

The bloc, which held its weekly meeting under MP Fouad Saniora on Tuesday, stressed that it “backed the candidacy of Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea in accordance with the agreement (reached) in the March 14 alliance and called on March 8 to announce its candidate to hold competitive elections.”

The Mustaqbal lawmakers rejected vacuum in the presidency, describing it as a “stabbing of the Lebanese Constitution and the choices of the people to hold onto the democratic system that is based on the rotation of power.”

Lebanese lawmakers failed in the first and second rounds of the vote to elect a new president due to differences between the March 8 and 14 alliances.

A new round is set to take place on Wednesday although it is almost certain that the parliamentary session would face the same fate of its predecessors due to the boycott of March 8 lawmakers.

Geagea, who is the March 14 alliance's only candidate, failed in the first round to garner the needed two-thirds of votes of the 128-member parliament.

In the second round, March 8 MPs boycotted the session, resulting in a lack of quorum.

March 8 hasn't yet officially announced its candidate. But the coalition’s officials have reiterated that Lebanon needs a consensual person in the country's top Christian post.

During the bloc's meeting, Saniora briefed the Mustaqbal MPs on the national dialogue session that was held at Baabda Palace on Monday.

Saniora said he hailed President Michel Suleiman's role in preserving the Constitution and the National Pact, and in contributing to lowering the tension in the country.

He added that the president, who leaves Baabda Palace on May 25, held onto dialogue as the only means to resolve the dispute between the rival parties.

Seems Roar has an Urge to appear IRRELEVANT / IGNORANT and extremely biased by turning a blind to his idol. Double standard at its best !

The only circus is one that actually involves animals like your pack of corrupt M8 politicians !

@roar - if they are not real candidates then why doesn't m8 Field their candidate and win? looooool.

Thumb FlameCatcher 06 May 2014, 15:41

@Roar : enough with your double standards !

Whether they are real candidates or not is irrelevant. What's relevant is that you have no candidates. In such a case, shut up or come up !

It's a democracy after all and you're free to suggest anyone !

It's not our problem if Aoun is a failed politicians with no support from his own M8 partners and whos scared shitless of getting less votes than Geagea or Gemayel.

You want a "real candidate", then start looking elsewhere than M8 / M14 and stop voting for Aoun in the next elections !

Thumb Mystic 06 May 2014, 15:47

Al Mostaqbal urges, do they themselves think that it's, going to convince M8 to announce their candidate? Saudi M14 are about to loose their minds again.

YELLOW BOY has spoken everyone.. everyone can relax now.

Thumb FlameCatcher 06 May 2014, 15:58

@Mystake : Of course M8 will not announce a candidate, why would they ? Their only goal is to prevent elections indefinitely !

M8 = Hypocrites ! Liars ! Thieves ! Criminals ! Assassins

It does not move the ball down the field for Mustaqbel to continue to state that it has a candidate and for M8 to field their candidate. Even if M8 did, neither the M8 nor the M14 candidate can win depending upon which way Jumblatt's 7 Deputies vote and Jumblatt, rather than choose an M8 or an M14, has gone with Henri Helou, which is neither. So there is no local decision in Lebanon for a President.

This is broken if Geagea and Aoun would both agree not to run and to instead jointly endorse a single candidate that would have the support of M8 and M14 regardless of what Jumblatt does. With M8 and M14 such a consensus Christian candidate would win. M14 and Geagea would be willing to do this, but Aoun is not and Hezbollah is counting on that to create the void in the Government that is coming. Aoun is the enabler of Hezbollah's obstruction of the State and its institutions from functioning.
