Berri Throws Weight behind Hizbullah on Resistance and Liberation Day

Speaker Nabih Berri hailed on Thursday the resistance that maintained the unity of Lebanon's land, people and institutions, deeming it as a “crucial need.”

“The Resistance is a necessity as long as part of our land remains under occupation and due to the ongoing Israeli violations,” Berri said in a statement issued on the occasion of the Resistance and Liberation day that commemorates the Israeli army’s withdrawal from south Lebanon in May 2000.

He noted that “the army is defending the country and carrying out security missions and similarly the resistance is a crucial need against any Israeli aggression.”

The head of the AMAL movement congratulated the Lebanese on the occasion, stressing that “the unity of the nation and its civil peace remain essential.”

Berri described the resistance as the “most powerful military force in the Middle East and the third in the world.”

“On the occasion of the Resistance and Liberation day we reiterate our trust in Lebanon, its system and divisions.”

Concerning the presidential elections deadlock, the Speaker called on lawmakers to assume their national responsibilities and kick start a new term.

The parliament failed anew on Thursday to elect a president in a fifth session of its kind, raising fears that the vacuum in the country's top Christian post would affect Lebanon's power-sharing agreement under which the president should be a Maronite, the premier a Sunni and the speaker a Shiite.

lol, betrayed the resistance?! any links southern, selfies, youtube videos? did they carry arms and fight with Israel against your resistance? Or just expressing their views as Lebanese against your sectarian militia means they betrayed the resistance. If that is your definition of betrayal, then 80% of the Lebanese are traitors. Go get your brain unwashed.

There was no liberation, it was withdrawal. Celebrate your delusions and your fantasies but we all know the truth.

The Iranian Islamic Resistance in Lebanon sends disgust and horror down the Lebanese People's spine!

The only official resistance in Lebanon is the resistance to Bashar's regime responsible for kicking out Bashar without a single drop of blood !

After we deal with Hezbollah, we will be dealing with you by unleashing the gates of hell and truly reclaiming our land (not like the KEZB) and sending about 500k palestinian back HOME !

Only the Shia cannot coexist cause they have their own state already. Their state is more powerful than the official one, so what's the sollution? Let have they're own official state?

eagledawn, Ariel is one of the M8 stooges in disguise... probably momo/crusher in drag.

Southern, you never responded to Iranian Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi, who said that Iran’s line of defense now lies in South Lebanon... the militia is both a terrorist and traitorous organization.

Unfortunately for you, if we Lebanese are to pick sides, as much as we despise Hezbollah, we would always side with them in front of you as we did in 2006.

Now buzz off and go murder palestinian children or build walls... all that you are good for !

"Third most powerful military force in the world??? Really? In what order?
1. USA, 2 Russia, 3 HA, 4 China?
Or maybe: 1.Russia, 2 China, 3 HA, 4 USA?
OR 1. China, 2. USA, 3. HA , 4 Russia?
Of course, France, England, India, Australia don't really count. HA can wipe them out with sling shots. BTW, Mr. Speaker, is HA more powerful than Iran? Unless, of course, you think Iran rank number 1 or 2. May be you meant: 1. Iran, 2. Syria and number 3 is HA.
