Change and Reform Warns of Elimination of Christians in East, ISIL-Like Policies in Lebanon

The Change and Reform bloc condemned on Wednesday the “elimination” of Christians in the East, “stretching from Iraq and leading to the presidential palace in Baabda.”

A statement, read by Foreign Minister Jebran Bassil after the bloc's weekly meeting, said: “We demand a halt to the ISIL-like policies against Christians in Lebanon.”

He made the reference to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant and its persecution of Christians in the Iraq.

He added that the rights of Christians in Lebanon are being violated on the presidential, parliamentary, and administrative levels.

The statement therefore called for “a resistance against ISIL in Lebanon and the Arab world.”

“We consider that the persecution of Christians in Iraq and Syria harms us as well,” it continued.

“The persecution is aimed at eliminating our message whereby the Christian presence is being eliminated in Palestine by Israel, by takfiris in Syria, and ISIL in Iraq,” stressed the Change and Reform bloc statement.

Furthermore, it warned the Muslim world that “it faces a greater threat in the future than the one Christians are being subject to at the moment.”

Commenting on the situation in Lebanon, the statement said: “Terrorism in Lebanon is hiding behind Syrian refugees.”

It also indirectly cited the recent clashes between the army and Islamist gunmen in the northeastern border town of Arsal as another form of injustice against Christians.

“Further injustice can be witnessed in the parliamentary electoral law whereby laws that ensure equality are being disregarded,” noted the statement.

Such practices eliminate the role of parliament and the constitutional council and pave the way for extending their terms thereby creating flaws in the situation in Lebanon, it added.

The injustice also carries on to the presidency where the president's privileges are being eroded and where individuals with limited representation are being considered for the position of head of state, it said.

Bassil: We are being punished for our institutional thinking and contract workers are admitted and kicked out by force and then justifications concerning sectarian balance are given.

Institutional thinking?! Is that why you have been boycotting the institution and election of the presidency..

Bassil: We are being punished for our constructive thinking, whereby we see contract workers being hired and at other times being fired.

Constructive thinking?! What is constructive about your thinking.... name but a few:)

Who brought the foreign Takfiri terrorists to Iraq to begin with..
Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said Monday that 90 percent of foreign terrorists who infiltrate Iraq did so via Syria. Maliki reiterated that ties with Damascus would not improve until it handed over the suspects it blames for one of two bloody attacks on government ministries in Baghdad on August 19 that killed 95 people and wounded 600. Maliki also insisted that Damascus "expel the terrorists, Baathists and Takfiris who take Syria as a base to launch criminal activity inside Iraq" and said without that there would be no progress.. - 2009 09 01

true true, taht is why with an army of good 250,000 militia men (maliki's friends nonetheless) and a budget of more than 40 Billion dollars since 2003, they failed to protect iraq from the filthy ISIS rebels
do you know that abou loukman, ISIS second man was released from saydnaya prison by a presidential order in 2011
did assad think back then that isis were bringing democracy to syria

no my dear, for them nothing matters more than their precious chairs and power. let syria be destroyed and iraq kidnapped, pas grave bc only them can restore order
how ironic

Christians in Lebanon are being violated on the presidential, parliamentary, and administrative levels. Wonder why didn't they insist of the traditional Christian post of General Security chief be return to the Christians. After screaming about this for years they had a chance to make it happen during Mikati's government. Then Hezbollah insisted it will remain with a Shiite, they don't trust Christians. Unless General Ibrahim Abbas is a Christian convert now?

To Aoun and Sons in law,
Just before you sleep try to think honestly who is dividing Christians and undermining their presence in Lebanon and the rest of Middle East.
Who is preventing the election of the only one Christian president in the whole Middle East.
Who is the egoist who sees no one but himself.
Stop taking advantage of any opportunity to falsely claim yourself as a Christian leader.
All what you are is an opportunist supported by sons in law benefiting from the situation.
If it is not for HA no one would know about your gang.

“a resistance against ISIL in Lebanon and the Arab world.”

Sounds like he's saying the FPM should be armed, as "A resistance" does not imply Hezbollah (THE resistance)

Thumb beiruti 21 August 2014, 04:01

The FPM and the Aouni with their obstructionist mindless tactics to secure Baabda at the cost of the nation, are more of a threat to the Christians of Lebanon than ISIS.

Iran , Hizbollah , and Bashar have brought mayhem on the middle east trying fro decades to change the balance of power in favour of the shias minorities wherever they are, unleashing herds of terrorist-kamikaze blowing themselves up against Saddam advancing army first, then the americans military in the early 80's in Lebanon, and subsequently widening the scope of their terrorist scheme with serial assassinations, and then traininng convicts and channeling terrorist to that end against the americans in Irak and Lebanon: the magic is turning today against the magician and threatening the whole area, with Bashar and the Hizb appearing as the only ones capable of bringing the stability …..they helped destroy in the first place with an end purpose: Bashar or chaos!
