Israel Hits Syria Army Post after 'Errant' Fire

The Israeli army said it struck a Syrian military position on Thursday after presumed "errant fire" hit the Israeli-occupied sector of the Golan Heights.

A statement from the army said that "at least one projectile hit the northern Golan Heights."

A military spokeswoman told AFP it hit an open field without causing any damage or harm to anyone.

"Initial reviews suggest that this was a result of errant fire from the internal fighting in Syria," the statement said.

"In response, the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) targeted a Syrian army position. Hits were confirmed."

Another army spokeswoman told AFP the forces had fired a Tamuz anti-tank missile at the Syrian military position.

Israel is closely monitoring the fighting between Syrian troops and Islamist rebels close to the armistice line on the Golan out of fear of a spillover of the internal conflict.

There has been repeated fire across the ceasefire line since the uprising in Syria erupted in March 2011, not all of it stray.

In June, Israeli warplanes attacked Syrian military headquarters and positions after an Israeli teenager was killed in what the Jewish state said was a cross-border attack by forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Israel seized 1,200 square kilometers (460 square miles) of the Golan Heights during the Six-Day War of 1967, then annexed it in 1981 in a move never recognized by the international community.

Like any country, if attacked return of fire will take place.

Hey why are you paranoid?

Israel shows no aggression towards Egypt or Jordan only unless rogue individuals or groups like yourselfs commit an act outside the Government authority.

No no I'm not pro Israeli but being very logical.

Israel returned fire in past on rebels who also shot projectiles over from Syria.

Remember they are still in a state of war with Syria & HA.

Let's get the facts right.
Syrian Army Facility - Nuclear site.
Iraqi Nuclear Reactor - raid even praised all over the world.
Israel had warned more than once that action would be taken against enemy states which became nuclear.
Jets to Khartoum - this was aimed solely at warehouses containing arms which had arrived on an Iranian ship and were destined for the Hamas terrorists in Gaza. Not a single Sudanese national was wounded in the attack.
Israel had warned many times that it would cut off arms supplies to Hamas so how can you say that previous warnings had not been given.
