A wanted man was killed on Thursday in a shootout with the Lebanese army in the southern city of Tyre, the state-run National News Agency reported.

NNA said a military patrol was chasing a car with five passengers when they exchanged fire with the troops in the area of al-Bass.

Later on Thursday, the army issued a statement confirming that a fugitive was killed and eight people were arrested during a chase in the Tyre region.

It said the fugitive Fawzi Fawzi Shahrour was shot by troops after he “pointed an assault weapon” at the army force.

He succumbed to his wounds at the Jabal Amel Hospital, according to the statement.

“Army troops also arrested eight people who were accompanying him in three cars,” the statement added.

Shahrour was 35 years old, according to NNA.

Just like I said in the Tripoli thread, I do not care which side shoots at the army, responding to the fire is not enough. The army must eliminate the source of fire every time it is fired on by ANYONE.
