Aoun: Collapse of Syrian Regime Will Harm Christians and Muslims

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun noted on Wednesday that the fall of the Syrian regime will not benefit Christians or Muslims, saying that the solution to the crisis lies in change and stability.

He told UPI: “Should the Syrian regime be overthrown, then the Christians and Muslims won’t have any freedom.”

“Introducing change without stability results in violence and chaos, while introducing stability without change will result in dictatorship,” he added.

“We have voiced our support for constitutional amendments that would create freedom and democracy in Syria,” he stated.

“If a peaceful solution is possible, then we cannot support a solution that resorts to violence,” he added.

“We will support amendments regardless of the form of the regime,” the MP continued.

Asked about the fate of Christians in the region, Aoun replied: “We fear the transition towards the establishment of a unified religious view that would result in a unilateral political view.”

“The region is struggling with extremist groups that oppose political freedoms and consider democracy an enemy of Sharia law,” he noted.

This is why countries that witnesses popular revolts, such as Tunisia and Egypt, are still witnessing unrest, Aoun continued.

Addressing the developments in the region, the FPM leader said that the United States and the West support Israel, “and should we support their policies, we would become extinct.”

“I do not have poor relations with the West … I am only defending myself and this country,” he stated.

On Turkey’s role in the region, he remarked: “It is seeking to revive Ottoman traditions that have negatively affected us and that ended with the First World War.”

“The Ottoman policy was a contributing factor in harming Islamic-Christian coexistence,” he added.

Addressing the Lebanese government, he said: “There is nothing stopping the government from persisting until the 2013 parliamentary elections.”

“We cannot control the external tensions that are affecting the situation in Lebanon,” Aoun noted.

“If some sides in government sought to sabotage the cabinet’s functioning, then we have no problem in changing it,” he stated.

Aoun is an Israeli spy double crossing as a Persian stooge and Syrian puppet...

Using Lebanon as a battleground for Israel-Syrian proxy wars is proof of just that,...

You'll flee into exile with the collapse of the Syrian regime and get prosecuted when the Iranian regime collapses not soon after...

How ironic - Aoun allies himself with the Syrian regime, and soon after they collapse....
He's like the widow of death - whoever he partners is doomed!

Hey Aoun.....when are you going to Lassa to show us how much you help the Christians. How is Assad's killing 3,000 people helping anyone?

When ASSad falls have your pajamas ready.

The Assad governments have had decades to make reforms and increase freedom and democracy in Syria, but they've refused to do that. Why would they be trusted now?

The only solution is revolution.

General: Some of us are willing to take that chance!

Aoun is really started to have the disease of old age: not really knowing what he says. He said that he welcomes a peaceful change in Syria while he doesn't advocate violence. Is he really sane? The whole Syria uprising is purely non-violent and the people over there have asked for a bit of freedom at the onset. Even now where 3000 were killed by the Syrian regime, the people there are not resorting to violence. Could Aoun tell us where he fabricates stories of peaceful change? The regime in Syria doesn't want change; they want the status quo forever even if all the Syrian people die. This regime is brutal and murderous. And this mantra of Christians and Muslim should be ceased. Does he think that Lebanon is better than Syria; Lebanon is owned by Berri, harriri and Aoun and some other people like Miqati. Stop fooling the Lebanese. Lebanon is a farm not a country. And stop preaching from your high chairs. The Lebanese are fed up with the likes of Aoun and his gang.

So nutsy Aoun says that "the United States and the West support Israel, 'and should we support their policies, we would become extinct'.

And yet he says that the fall of the Assad Regime would be detrimental to Middle Eastern Christians??

Since it is now plain before the eyes of the world that forebearance by the United States and the West to militarily confront the Assad Regime as the West participated in confronting the Gadaffi Regime is the only thing that keeps Assad in power. And further, it is clear that the US refrains from stopping Assad's murderous assault because it is Israel's wish to keep the Assads in power in Syria, actually it is the policy of the US and the West to keep Assad because Israel demands it, given the unrest on its southern borders.

Would it therefore not be the better course to thrwart US and Israeli policy by joining forces with the Syrian Opposition? By siding with Assad, Aoun is siding with Israel, as is Hezbollah.

General Aoun: "By the way, I remind you here that the Syrian regime had said that it came to ‎Lebanon to save its Christians from extermination. I want to ask this regime who, apart from ‎it, in fact wanted to exterminate us?" MTV 2002

- By the way mon Général what's worse than extermination?

Charite bien ordonnee commence par soi-meme...Why are we worried about Syria, let's clean-up our mess first, send Mr. Aoun back to exile then discuss the situation in the region...

i can actually read between his lines that he has extremely softened his stance on this issue. is he starting to realize that assad is kaput? needless to say it is too little too late

Missing peace 21 September 2011, 22:15

this little orange general always asked for the fall of the assad s family while in france....

As is the farts (a combination of criminals, thieves and idiots) who are anxious to see the Syrian regime fall care about anybody, Christians or Muslims. These farts only care about their own interests. I repeat: THESE FARTS ONLY CARE ABOUT THEIR OWN INTERESTS. This is the reason why they will forever remain losers. Always the wrong timing. Always the wrong associations. Always the wrong policies. Always the wrong choices. ALWAYS WRONG. ALWAYS LOSERS.

I think the media should refrain from interviewing him and let him be. just ignore that old fossil and let him choke with his own vomit.

This man is a nutcase I swear. See as he said that he doesnt see any reason for a change in the goverment untill 2013 and few weeks ago he was talking about breaking the goverment himself! Plus talking about the Violence and the regime in Syria as a "no need" to be changed while he was the one who stood up shouting to fight the same regime with a "shawkeh w sikkineh" I swear those GMA supporters and followers are so illiterates. WAKE UP FOOLS!

Default-user-icon Chi Fekhem (Guest) 22 September 2011, 05:03

Were You not the SAME PERSON that wanted to fight the same Regime back in the days???? Now You are concerned about the safety of Christians??? WHY Didn't You think about their safety back THEN????? ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? And The so called Your supporters Still Follows You???? Jesus Christ have PEOPLE LOST Their MINDS???

Default-user-icon Arz10452 (Guest) 22 September 2011, 06:20

It is amazing what this guy is saying. He has to only think of the 20 officers that were executed by Emil Lahoud and the Syrian forces that entered the Palace of Baabda upon his escape to France. Those officers had no fault except their loyalty to this mad man. He and Jumblatt are cut out of the same cloth, the latter had his dad assassinated by the Syrians, yet he goes to Damascus and licks their boot. Shame on both of these sub-humans.

Default-user-icon Muhamad (Guest) 22 September 2011, 11:17

Lies and more lies to your supporters, actually you are correct it will hurt you first and Hezboshaitan second, because no more cash in bribe will flow into your accounts. The regime will change like it or not and you will be tried for your war crimes against christin and musloms.

Default-user-icon Pong Lenis (Guest) 22 September 2011, 13:45

He is saying the truth. Falling syrians will order their lebanese slaves to inflame the country by commiting terrorist acts, as it began already in Antelias.
