Geagea Urges Calm as Btedei Incident Victim Succumbs to Injuries

A Lebanese man succumbed to his injuries on Monday after his wife was killed and his son injured over the weekend during clashes between the Lebanese army and a number of gunmen west of Baalbek, which prompted Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea to urge calm and promise that the culprits will be brought to justice.

Sobhi Fakhri, who was in critical condition, died at Dar al-Amal hospital.

His wife Nadimeh was killed and his son Romeo were wounded in the Saturday crime committed by fugitives from al-Jaafar clan in the Baalbek town of Btedei.

The gunmen were fleeing raids carried out by the Lebanese army in the Dar al-Wasaa area when they entered the Fakhri house with the intent of taking their vehicle.

The family refused to meet the demands of the armed men, which prompted them to shoot the couple and their son.

The residents of Btedei have warned they would go after the criminals if the authorities failed to arrest them. They held the Jaafar clan responsible for the crime.

The Jaafar clan, however, issued a statement in which they voiced regret over “the martyrdom of Nadimeh and Sobhi Fakhri.”

The statement noted that the clan's gunmen “entered the house with the aim of seeking protection and help, since they have had ties with the sons of the Fakhri family for tens of years.”

“A stampede ensued inside the house and shooting started from several sides, which resulted in the martyrdom of dear brothers,” the statement explained.

But Geagea dismissed the clan's statement on Monday, noting that “an entire family was attacked because fugitive criminals wanted to add to their record the assassination of an entire family.”

“The criminals will be brought to justice and I have contacted several officials, who expressed determination to pursue the criminals until the end,” he said at a press conference.

“The criminals acted like the ISIL (Islamic State group) and their records are full of criminality,” the LF leader added.

He called on the residents of Btedei and neighboring Deir al-Ahmar to “preserve civil peace, because if evil won one round, the law, right and justice will win a thousand rounds.”

Geagea expressed regret over the statement issued by the Jaafar family, while describing them as “neighbors.”

“But their statement was against truth and reality. They should have tried to appease people and the victims instead of issuing blatant accusations,” said Geagea.

He urged residents to show restraint, pledging to them that “the criminals will be prosecuted and brought to justice.”

Geagea also call on the Bekaa prosecutor to probe the statement issued by the Jaafar clan, “because some people have decided to stand by the criminals against the innocents.”

The security plan in the Bekaa is a joke. All the wanted outlaws have been told in advance and they already left.

aaaand this what happens when you let Iranian Revolutionary Guard implants enter Lebanon and pretend to be Lebanese. As tragic as this is? I'm not surprised. May their souls be at peace.

“The criminals acted like the ISIL (Islamic State group) and their records are full of criminality,” the LF leader added......

Gaegae is equating HA thugs with ISIL thugs. That should dispell claims by Mowaten, Southern, Mystic, otherss that Gagegae is pro ISIL

Thumb _mowaten_ 17 November 2014, 18:10

oh he made a vague allusion to ISIL's criminality, that really clears him from any suspicion!
and ps: jaafar are not HA, only in the mind of sectarian haters like you.

Thumb _mowaten_ 17 November 2014, 18:12

pps: i systematically denounced jaafar and other criminal gangs, regardless of where they come from or what sect they are, but that didnt seem to dispel your claims, did it?

Missing helicopter 17 November 2014, 18:52

FYI, Jaafar clan are huge HA supporters and I know this first hand. Also HA is a supporter of the Jaafar clan

Thumb Mystic 17 November 2014, 17:25

The Jaafar clan, however, issued a statement in which they voiced regret over “the martyrdom of Nadimeh and Sobhi Fakhri.

So where is this going? If proof indeed indicates, that this crime was committed by the same clan, Geagea claims did this.

Then justice will be held. Until then, this is another point the finger claim. Takfiris are also moving around in that area.

Actually no, that's just as common through some as your HA devotion to Iran rather than Lebanon, now quit manipulating. And again with that Pavlovian reflex of yours? Come on, it's getting old FT.

Thumb Elemental 18 November 2014, 01:17

PS FT, don't go all fake accounts on us, it's sad and pathetic like you assuming I'm M14.

Thumb smarty 17 November 2014, 19:45

Mystic, your proficiency to twist facts and to change subjects is very common about your tribe. You Shiites truly are something another as would say Ehsan Zhubin Behrouz

Thumb freedomarch 17 November 2014, 20:48

If they did it would be a good thing, but still weapons in the hands of wrong people will always result in regretful accidents like this. Gvernment, Lebanese army shoul do it thier job to study the causes and put an end to loose security near the boarders and the Bekaa in general.

Thumb the_roar 17 November 2014, 17:54

Look who's talking about justice for slain families ....where else but in Lebanon ?

Lebanons infamous serial family killer is now preaching about justice.

RIP to the family .

Missing greatpierro 17 November 2014, 19:34

No it's the worst thing that the Christians can do. The only and only solution is to stand by the rule of law. This is unfortunately or fortunately the only choice. Any other way leads to more dead, suffering and threat to the Christians presence. Should we not learn from the n'ont so far past

Thumb freedomarch 17 November 2014, 20:26
