Al-Rahi to Connelly: Resolving Hizbullah’s Arms Linked to Israeli Implementation of International Resolutions

U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Maura Connelly informed Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi of her country’s disappointment with his recent statements, reported As Safir on Saturday.

Al-Rahi had recently stated that Hizbullah’s arms are a product of the Israeli occupation, which sparked Connelly’s consternation.

The patriarch responded: “It is a terrorist party in your eyes. It’s true that it possesses arms, but some Lebanese land is still under occupation.”

“The occupation must come to an end,” he stressed.

“If only the international community and the United States would help Lebanon and hold Israel accountable in implementing international resolutions,” he added.

“Had they done so, then we wouldn’t have a problem called Hizbullah’s weapons,” al-Rahi noted.

He had stated during his visit to France recently that Hizbullah’s arms possession is linked to the liberation of occupied Lebanese territory.

These statements and others on Christians in the region sparked controversy in Lebanon.

He later said that his remarks were misinterpreted and taken out of context.

Al Rahi statements are pure logic and tackle the heart of the Hizbullah's weapons issue. Instead of treating them as terrorists, let the US force Israel out of the last occupied Lebanese territories. This will be the real test for Hizbullah's credibility: will they accept then to adhere to a defense strategy and let their aramada be in the hand of the Lebanese army, or will they find another excuse to keep their weapons???
Except if the US & Israel are happy with this situation which is a warranty for Israel to get the billions US$ aids every year for its military funding to keep fighting Hizbullah???

I think the Patriarch has intentionally rattled the cage of the US and the World, and told them not to take Lebanese Christians for granted. I believe he made those statements deliberately to sound an alarm. His Eminence won't change his stances overnight without valid reasons. The Man is Wise. Keep faith.

My dear Patriarch. Hizbollah s arms have nothing to do with resistance. There is no such thing as a resistance anywhere in the world, or in History, unless the state from which resistance operates is non-existant and has crumbled. Then a popular uprising forms, with the aim of kicking out the agressor or occupant. An then, the victorious uprising takes bver power, to fill an EXISTING vacuum. In Lebanon, the resistance is CREATING that vacuum , by challenging not the enemy, but the state institutions which it is pushing into paralysis and collapse, and assassinating all its political opponents to grab power violently! Is Syria resisting on the Golan to recuperate its rights? Why is there no uprising in Syria against Israel? No. Syria is negotiating behind the scenes at our expenses. All the other countries that have done so, have recuperated every inch of their land. This is what we should do.Just like Syria. No more, but no less! No your Eminence, Hizbollah, this criminal organisation

Has got much different strategic goals in possessing arms. Just like Nadim Gemayel was saying, it will ultimately push others to create another resistance, their own way, if they're still treated as idiots, who ignore they'r e being dragged and trampled upon, at gunpoint, by those thugs, pretending to liberate their land.

Hooray for the Patriarch!

he just keeps adding fuel to the fire...

We'll see how happy he is with Hezbollah's weapons when they stage a coup and implement an Islamic regime...

We'll see how happy he is with Hezbollah's weapons when they invite Israel to another bombardment of Lebanon.

We'll see how happy he is with Hezbollah's weapons when they scare away business and ultimately Lebanese jobs.

We'll see how happy he is with Hezbollah's weapons when the army can't contain them when they shoot at Lebanese...

To our dear Batrak, do you really think that HIZBUSTAN will lay down their arms if Israel leaves all Occupied Lebanese lands tomorrow ? All Lebanese who think that are being Fooled. HIZBUSTAN'S Arms are being held over our heads to threaten us and to flex their muscles over all other Sects in Lebanon, and to simply carry out their "Basij" and "Shabbiha" Masters plans against us. Just look at the acts they have commited against Lebanon and its citizens in the past : Blocking downtown for 1 and 1/2 years. Stealing Electricity. Murdering many members of March 14 including the PM. Taking over Sunni areas and killing 100 innocent citizens. Sheltering all sorts of criminals and outlaws. Declaring Very Costly so called Liberation war against Israel.... and the list can go on. Another question to our Beloved Batrak : Aren't the HIZBUSTANS carrying out exactly the same tactics of Occupation, that they blame Israel of commiting, such as the Illegal Occupation of LASSA and other Christian areas ?

It is clear now where the survive-at-all costs-in-the-new-"Job" Al Rahi is heading he is just another Aoun and Franjieh in the making. He should never have been chosen a Patriarch since he has proven he does not have the stomach or the resolve for it, he will agree with anyone that holds a gun to his head, the guy is an insult to every brave freedom & democracy loving person in the Middle East and the free world, but most and foremost an insult to Christian Ethos and bravery against all odds. Just like Aoun and Franjieh and other cheap traitors are being used to weaken the Christian resolve polticially, He is being used to do the same religiously (although he strikes me as being more a poltician wanna-be than he could ever be an inspirational Religious role model for bravery and standing up for what is right at all costs and Peace) I'm afraid no amount of fire fighting will help, the Vatican should step in and immediately recall Al Rahi and have him resign....NOW!

If Israel were to withdraw from the Shebaa, then there would be Ganjar, and if Israel were to withdraw from Ganjar then there would be the maritime dispute over the gas fields.

Doesn't Patriarch see that the "Israeli Occupation" is not a justification for Hezbollah arms, it is a ruse, a mere pretext. Hezbollah is armed for reasons other than Israel. It is armed as a Eastern Mediterranean outpost for Iran. That Patriarch, an educated man would mouth this ruse, this pretext to the US Ambassador as a serious condition for the disarming of Hezbollah is embarassing.

the filthy zionist information war department still cannot believe that we have a glorious and patriotic patriarch.

they keep repeating their bullshits under various nicknames without realizing how irrelevant they are

May God bless you Patriarch Al-Rahi for defending Lebanon with the truth.

OMG. Why did the pope choose Al Rahi and gave the pontifical boot to the zionist Sfeir?

I agree. And then, the Palestinians shall implement their own resolution to send the filth of the earth back to their European homelands despite the fact that they are not welcome anywhere. But that's their main problem and they are so immersed in filth that they stink even from far away.
