Berri Inquires U.S. about Role in Lebanon-Israel Maritime Border Dispute
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةSpeaker Nabih Berri has asked Lebanon's Ambassador to Washington to inquire the U.S. administration about the reasons behind the procrastination of a top energy diplomat in resolving the territorial dispute between Lebanon and Israel.
Berri told his visitors on Thursday that he asked Ambassador Antoine Chedid to ask the State Department on why Amos Hochstein has stopped his mission.
The speaker's remarks were published in al-Joumhouria newspaper on Friday.
Berri is spearheading a campaign to revive the oil exploration file in Lebanon after accusing Israel of “stealing” Lebanon's offshore gas.
He has also been calling for the demarcation of the southern territorial waters.
Berri told his visitors that he would meet with UNIFIL Commander Major General Luciano Portolano on Friday to discuss with him a possible U.N. role in protecting Lebanon's rights in its Exclusive Economic Zone.
But U.N. Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson, who was in Beirut this week, has said that any U.N. mediation in that regard requires a request by the Lebanese and Israeli authorities.
“We haven't so far received any such Israeli demand,” he said.
Lebanon and Israel are at loggerheads over the 850 kilometers of territorial water that each claims as part of its EEZ.
G.K.
H.K.
knee-jerk anti lebanese reactions, you guys obviously would hate to see lebanon prosper from its oil resources.
but you're going to have to swallow that too
oh _mowaten_ you scary me sometimes!!!! I was thinking the same thing, exactly the same thing. We are so so similar it is not even funny anymore. We are both Shia and extremists; We both pretend to be secular and non-prejudicial; We both are malignant narcissists; We both lie and distort and last but not least; We both are paid to post.
_mowaten_, do you think people might think we are the same poster? I hope not
mowaten, why did you delete my comment?! Did you find anything offensive in it or you are just playing god?
and this video shows who he really is

yea i like playing god, especially since naharnet gave me moderator powers.
gee... there are really fruitcakes here
(2). Berri Baba. A blatant thief like Berri who still kisses the backsides of non-Lebanese, who still splits the Lebanese cake with his non-Lebanese masters is one that should be behind bars, and definitely not talking for the wellbeing nor for the economic guardianship of Lebanon's interests. When most Lebanese can't barely subside, Berri Baba's son are busy running Dad's businesses in the US, among other places of course. Tfeh.
the naive M8ers still believe that the oïl will make Lebanon prosperous... they have NO guarantee in that. seeing how lebanese politicians behave, all filling their pockets, why would they share this wealth with the lebanese rather than filling their pockets? Nigeria is a good example that i am sure lebanese politicians will follow...
the rush and excitement only M8ers put in the oil file is a proof of that! foaming like rabid dogs at the sight of money, but they will never let the lebanese benefit from it....
it looks like there is a rush to find new source of revenue as assad is broke
however it will take years before the gas could generates profits, and no company will invest if there is no agreement with cyprus and israel, in order to optimize investments
Israel will try (and apparently succeed) to steal the gas/petrol and whoever expects anything else is a fool.
NICOSIA, Cyprus (AP)14 minutes ago — Cyprus' Energy Ministry says initial exploratory drilling by an Italian-Korean consortium off Cyprus' southern coast has failed to find significant quantities of gas.
Berri, take your balls and your brain with you, go to Israel with a map of the maritime zone you want for Lebanon, propose the demarcation or the border with Israel on this basis with in exchange the end of all hostilities between the two countries.
This doesn't mean necessarily peace, but the end of the state of war between both countries, which is totally anachronical and doesn't benefit to Lebanon.
