Gulf Neighbors Denounce Huthis 'Coup' in Yemen

Yemen's Gulf neighbors on Saturday condemned what they termed a "coup" in Sanaa after the Shiite Huthi militia dissolved parliament and installed a presidential council to run the country.
"The Huthi coup marks a grave and unacceptable escalation... and endangers the security, stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Yemen," the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council said in a statement from its Riyadh headquarters.
The Saudi-led GCC, which also includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, had urged the Huthis to pull out of Sanaa, which the militia overran in September.
On Saturday, the Sunni monarchies said their own security was linked to that of Yemen and vowed to take "all the necessary measures to defend their interests", without elaborating.
The GCC called on the U.N. Security Council to intervene and put an end to the "coup which has placed Yemen and its people in a dark tunnel".
Yemen has been riven by instability since an Arab Spring-inspired uprising that forced autocratic president Ali Abdullah Saleh from power in 2012.
Saleh, who stepped down in a U.N.- and GCC-backed deal to ease the crisis, has been accused of backing the Huthis, as has Shiite-dominated Iran.
The turmoil has raised fears that Yemen, which lies next to oil-rich Saudi Arabia, could become a failed state.
The Huthis dissolved parliament on Friday and set up a five-member presidential council to form a transitional government to govern for two years.
The steps announced in a "constitutional declaration" aim to fill a power vacuum after President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi and Prime Minister Khalid Bahah resigned last month.
They tendered their resignations after the Huthis, who swept down from their mountainous northern stronghold to overrun Sanaa, last month seized the presidential palace and key government buildings.
They also abducted a key Hadi aide in protest at a draft constitution that would divide impoverished Yemen into six federal regions and which they said further marginalized their community.
Indeed the Saudi Monarchy are in deep fear. This is all happening in their backyard Yemen, that they used to control. The last chance for the Saudis, is to arm Al Qaeda as best as they can, just like they do in Syria, Iraq and Lebanon.
Mekkah has to be freed and the holy places of this old land, is being contaminated by the Wahabis.
But yesterday your huthis said Peaceful means will be used to resolve conflicts. Now, you want to liberate Mecca...?LOL. Try not to post as .lebanon003/4/5..... it is too obvious.
but 4 years ago, your Saudi King said Assad must go, now King Abdollah himself died and Assad is still on his seat. Keep crying my friend, your time is up.
Mecca to be freed by another sectarian militia! Have you checked with the population of Mecca and Hijaz if they want to be freed by your sectarian militias!!!
The Islamic Republic of Iran and its revolutionary guards denounce the GCC statement and consider it a blatant interference in Yemen's internal affairs. The democratic transition of power that came of the free will of the people cannot be described as a coup. The people of Yemen exercised their democratic rights and formed a representative ruling committee. The Islamic Republic will continue to offer military, financial, and logistical support to all oppressed Shiite around the world as per the instructions of our Supreme Leader Sayid Ali Khamanei.
You are not being funny, Shah supporter. Good luck living in the West with the rest of your clique. You will stay there forever, and Iran will remain clean from your pro western empire.
Naharnet admins, what a joke.
Millions of Iranians kill for the opportunity to live in the west! I wonder why?
Millions of Iranians? They are not Iranians, they are the the prostitutes of the West, selling their culture in return for a Mcdonalds oriented one.
They are definitely Iranians and proud of their heritage. They simply cannot stand living under the thumbs of a totalitarian theocracy. Calling them 'not Iranians' shows how narrow minded fanatic you are.
AmericanDemocrat, the only fanatics are you guys trying to impose your fake democracies around the world with force, good thing we have the Axis of Resistance the wall of steel that keeps your Western values of Mcdonalds and Gay parades at bay.
Mystic, FT... you are both full of nonsense. The governments in the West treat their populations infinitely better than those belonging to the axis of oppression that you support. While one may fairly take issue with aspects of governance and trends in these countries or strongly disagrees with their politics, it is straight down obscene to belittle these countries to cultures of McDonals and Gay parades (even though there is nothing wrong with that). These are the countries that are responsible for much of the art and technology in the world and not the axis of oppression that you support. I want my people to have a choice. You want to give them none.
the situation in yemen cannot prevail this way :)
the houtis are a really small minority and they cannot govern.
the best they can hope for is to partition yemen.
Here is a perfect example, anonymetexasusa in deep fear aswell. Trying to shield his Wahabi monarchy on Naharnet.
The same of you, that said Assad days were numbered 4 years ago, you have already lost, everyday Assad stays in power is a victory for the Axis of Resistance, everyday East and the West tensions rises, is a victory.
Assad is still in Syria, Hezbollah is still in Lebanon. The Resistance still remains, despite your numerous attempts to break the steel chain that connects it. It is you who are the loosers, it is you who are the whiners, it is you who are failing everyday.

sorry miss tic to bring you some truths.... but not only the washington times reports this... but of course it is bad for your propaganda to see iran working with al Qaeda when they need to, or the USA working with houthis...
glad to see you deflect the subject to avoid debating it by bringing up afghanistan when the topic is about yemen!
sure when it does not fit your binary pattern, you bug!
and LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL to you desperate hezbi lover...
Yeah sure, I'm going to believe your American garbage propaganda peace. Dream on, and keep crying. Now watch, as your beloved Wahabis looses another foothold.
poor miss tic... sure you will not believe what i write when it is against your BS...
but facts are here, and you just need to go and read by yourself other newspapers if you cannot believe what i write. but you prefer to ignore it and stay in your ignorance, so much more comfortable for you... and it avoids your certainties to be shaken and your brain to bug LOLLLL
you are just a joke.
What are you bluffing about peace? I take it as a good thing, that i hit your nerves which resulted in you having to respond, which means you are in the same state of fear as texas. You know you are loosing, yet you keep shielding your wahabi masters.
"You know you are loosing, yet you keep shielding your wahabi masters."
poor miss tic... i only see one here full of fear and it is you... telling you that the USA still cooperate with the houthi gvt... bad for your propaganda isn't it, as you believe that the houthis blew a set back for the West! LOLLLL
... so i understand your anger and insults...
and also it is hard to believe that iran once cooperated with al Qaeda in yemen not so long ago...
so my advice to you is to stop seeing the world in your stupid binary mode... the good ones being iran and the bad ones the USA as you see it is far more complex than that... but i know it is hard for a weak mind like yours to comprehend this, too difficult for you.
so stay in your delirium, at least you entertain us all here!
President Obama was democratically elected by the people of the United States unlike your huthis.
The pro Wahabis of Naharnet are shaking in fear, calling out for ice-man/norma.jeans lusty words to save them. Now this is amusing indeed!
Which planet do you live in!!!???? The Saudi government supports Al Qaeda in Yemen? The Al Qaeda in Yemen is the biggest threat the Royal family in Saudi Arabia has. Their focus on weakening al Qaeda has been their primary focus in Yemen and that is why they funded the fight against the group during president Hadi administration driving the Al Qaeda from much of the south of Yemen. Their focus on the Al Qaeda is what enabled the Houthis to waltz into the capital.
What about Poroshenko? The armed coup in Ukraine, U.S double standards. The U.S supported the Anti Yanukovych protesters in wrecking havoc inside Kiev.
miss tic : sorry to shake your certainties about the nice iran and bad USA... LOLLLL
"In November 2008, Western security officials intercepted a letter signed by bin Laden deputy Ayman al-Zawahiri thanking Iran for its “vision” in helping al Qaeda establish a foothold in Yemen after being routed from Iraq and Saudi Arabia. The terror leader praised Tehran for its “monetary and infrastructure assistance” related to a September 2008 attack on the U.S. Embassy in Yemen’s capital Sana’a

ROFL!
Southern - only a blind person with zero knowledge thinks that Yemen is on the right track. During president Hadi time, Al Qaeda was driven out of most of their holdings in Yemen. Now they are resurgent. The only things that the Houthi have going for them: having destroyed much of the instrument of the state, they are presenting themselves to the west as the main bulwark to Al Qaeda. Remind anyone of another strategy?
Soon, the downtrodden of Arabia will rise against their oppressors. The Saudi and Khalifa clans will be ejected to Israel or the US.
Is that a martyred khomeini jihadist terrorist family in your avatar?
I support the houthis democratic changes in Yemen and Lebanon.
This is not going to end well. Basically, Iran just got a foothold in the Arabian peninsula and the GCC will soon be arming the Sunnis to fight back. Yemen is going to be doomed for years of fighting, just like Syria.
Lebanon next?
Amazing to see all these sectarians above claiming to be Lebanese and rejoicing at what some armed terrorist group had done in another country simply because they are shia like them.
