At least 10 people were killed and 11 others injured when a truck laden with passengers and luggage overturned in eastern Guinea, a security source said Saturday.

The accident happened on Friday near the town of Beyla, the source told Agence France Presse from the capital Conakry, adding that the 11 people were "seriously injured".

The truck was headed to a weekly market but it "turned over when the driver approached a turn", the source said.

According to the early findings of the inquiry "speeding and reckless driving" appeared to be to blame for the accident, the source added.

It was not clear how many people were on board the truck at the time.

Deadly traffic accidents are common in Guinea and are often attributed to poorly maintained roads and vehicles and careless driving.
