The newly-appointed members of the Banking Control Commission of Lebanon are expected to start their mission despite the absence of a president.

The official Gazette will likely publish the decree of their appointment on Thursday.

The five members were appointed by the government on March 12. The commission is chaired by Samir Hammoud.

The remaining BCCL members are Ahmed Safa, Munir Elyan, Joseph Sarkis, and Sami Azar.

Constitutionally, the commission should take the oath before the head of state. But Baabda Palace has been vacant since President Michel Suleiman's six-year tenure in May last year.

Al-Mustaqbal daily said on Wednesday that Hammoud and Sarkis moved to their offices two days earlier and the rest of the members were already managing the commission's day-to-day affairs.
