Hale: Daesh Posed No Threat to Lebanon until Hizbullah Went into War in Syria

U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon David Hale noted Tuesday that Washington has not given any “green light” for Hizbullah's military intervention in neighboring Syria, describing the party's involvement as the “magnet” that drew the extremist groups into Lebanon.

“I'm absolutely confident that the Lebanese army has both the will and the capacity to defend its borders,” Hale said in an interview with LBCI television.

Asked whether the U.S. silence on Hizbullah's involvement in the Qalamoun battle was some sort of a “green light” from Washington, Hale replied: “We've not given anyone the green light to do anything. What we're doing is focusing on the army and its mandate.”

“We very much support Lebanon's policy of dissociation from the conflict there and we think those who are breaking that policy of dissociation are responsible for a lot of the instability that Lebanon is facing today,” the U.S. envoy added.

Answering a question about al-Nusra Front, which is leading the fight against Hizbullah near Lebanon's border, Hale described the Qaida-linked group as a threat to “all civilized people” and to “all decent people in Lebanon.”

He added: “I would say that Daesh (Islamic State group) posed no threat to Lebanon until Hizbullah went into the war in Syria and that provided the magnet that drew these terrorists here.”

“I'm afraid that those external parties that are continuing to defend that regime are merely perpetuating the conflict and the suffering in Syria and in many ways pushing it into Lebanon,” Hale warned.

Asked about the Syrian regime's situations in light of the rebels' recent military gains, Hale noted that “it is clear that the Syrian regime is incapable of restoring order in Syria and of ending the battle.”

“So it is quite evident to us that there is no military solution and what needs to be found is that political transition which the Geneva process promised, and which is still on the table, and which ultimately is gonna be the only answer to the suffering of Syria,” he added.

As for the fate of Syrian President Bashar Assad in any political settlement, Hale stressed that “he cannot be part of any political solution by definition.”

Mr Ambassador : you are telling the truth.

“I'm absolutely confident that the Lebanese army has both the will and the capacity to defend its borders,”

but M8ers do not believe that and prefer hezbollah over their army.....

Thumb Mystic 12 May 2015, 22:14

Mr. Hale, tell that to the innocent unarmed Yazidi people in Iraq, or the Assyrian communities, or the Aramaic people.

They never fought ISIS anywhere, yet they were still slaughtered like sheep. Americans are the worst killers in the world, so you are used to this slaughter yourself.

After all? Who teached ISIS to become what they are? = The god forsaken CIA!

Missing peace 12 May 2015, 22:20

miss tic: he is talking about threat against Lebanon not iraq...till hezbis did not enter syria daesh never posed a threat...
so do not deflect the topic to justify the cries of your terrorist party....

Thumb megahabib 12 May 2015, 22:23

Lol, yeah, Daish wants a worldwide caliphate, just not in Lebanon!

Thumb Mystic 12 May 2015, 22:31

Happened both in Syria and Iraq and all around the world ya Mostaqbali 7abil. Look around, so you expect da3ish to leave Lebanon alone, untouched. Even though they could hit, so many areas around the globe.

Some people in here seems to forget, that Lebanon is so close to these takfiri masses. They are only next door, they are not thousands of miles away, even though some Lebanese seems to act like they live on an isolated island.

If you believe the civil war in Lebanon was a slaughter, then wait and see if Da3ish and Nusra takes over. There will be nothing of Lebanon left.

Missing peace 12 May 2015, 22:37

miss tic the empty head: ask your brainless skull why did they develop in iraq then in syria ?
the factors and context are totally different but your terrorist militia had to come to the rescue of his pimp...

but i will not argue with you, it is totally useless as you will always glorify your militia as any fanatic islamist would do... you and daesh are the same...

Thumb Mystic 12 May 2015, 22:49

peaches, wouldn't be a problem for you to write that. If Da3ish and Nusra comes to Lebanon then you wouldn't be hurt, because Hariri and the Saudi King will protect you mostaqbalis and you can always swear alligiance to them.

All I wonder is, how come you keep lying to your christian supporters in Lebanon? Using Geagea as a spokesperson for it? Sooner or later they will realize your lies, but then it will be too late and they will burn for it.

I do support the Christian minorities right to survive in the region, even if they were former supporters of Geagea.
Why do you act like ISIS and Nusra are different by the way? They are exactly the same thing.

Are you working on a commercial texas? Sounds like you are selling toothbrushes.

Fact is, people don't want your western values in Da7iyeh. You remember last time America went on a westernized adventure in Lebanon year 1983?

Thumb Mystic 13 May 2015, 00:50

Hey texas, when did you become the spokesperson of da7iyeh? I have been missing out on alot today.

I congratulate you on your new title.

Thumb Mystic 13 May 2015, 00:57

You should write a biography called - From Arlington to Da7iyeh.

Thumb Mystic 13 May 2015, 01:08

Yes dear texas, you are more than welcome to come to Da7iyeh and see what the people there thinks about America.

I would even provide you protection to do it myself, or we could stand by a LAF checkpoint if you don't believe me.

Thumb Mystic 13 May 2015, 07:54

That was a lame & pathetic answer texas.

Thumb Mystic 12 May 2015, 22:15

Seems like some of you people are starting to wake up.

Thumb Mystic 12 May 2015, 22:17

Don't forget cedar, if you keep on following the Saudis and Western propaganda, then the Phalangist and LF will be doomed, start supporting fellow Christians in the region instead of selling yourselves to the Western schemes.

Missing panzergen 13 May 2015, 06:09

Daesh does not need excuse or anything to go and cause chaos and destruction in Lebannon. The LAF is noble but not strong enough to fight these islamist Takfiris. Hezbollah right now is doing the right thing by defending Lebanon. America should move on, and make friends with Iran and not KSA.

Missing alyanko10452 13 May 2015, 06:55

Exactly. We knew that, but few Lebanese politicians dared saying it so overtly.

Thumb Mystic 13 May 2015, 07:53

It's amusing to see how many of you claums to know what is going on, one types all Shia are bad another one writes only Hezb. Try go in between, people actually support the Resistance because it is their dignity and pride.

Only Oqab Saqr thinks otherswise because Hariri paid for his loyalty like they did with many others.

Thumb Mystic 13 May 2015, 08:02

Oqap Saqr by the way, is indeed a takfiri because he supported them openly and provided them supplies.

Aoun: "Hezbollah is collaborating with Israel to legitimize Israel's use of destructive force [against Lebanon]"
-An-Nahar 4 February 2002

Aoun: "The resistance [Hezbollah] is prolonging the [Israeli] occupation"
