Prime Minister Tammam Salam is scheduled to deliver a speech to the Lebanese people on Tuesday to address the ongoing danger of the presidential vacuum that will reach one year on Monday.

Salam will highlight the threat of the deadlock and call for resolving the dispute, reported the daily al-Mustaqbal on Sunday.

He deemed efforts to end the impasse as a “national duty” that would steer Lebanon clear of vacuum at state institutions.

Lebanon has been without a president since May 24, 2014 when the term of Michel Suleiman ended without the election of a successor.

Ongoing disputes between the rival March 8 and 14 camps over a compromise candidate have thwarted the polls.
