Report: Aoun Rejects Offer Made by Moqbel on Roukoz

Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun has reportedly told Defense Minister Samir Moqbel that he would continue to abide by the law despite an offer to promote his son-in-law in the military institution.
Sources told An Nahar daily published on Tuesday that Moqbel suggested to Aoun that his son-in-law Commando Regiment chief Brig. Gen. Chamel Roukoz, whose tenure ends in October, be promoted.
But Aoun rejected the idea outright.
“How would we accept the violation of the law and the constitution?” Aoun asked Moqbel during a meeting they held in Rabieh on Monday.
The lawmaker, who is also the head of the Free Patriotic Movement, and the defense chief have been at loggerheads over the extension of the terms of several high-ranking officials.
The FPM says the extensions are illegal.
Aoun wants Roukoz to become army chief to replace Gen. Jean Qahwaji whose term ends in September.

the second elections were held after the Doha accord and Batroun/Jbeil were separated from Tripoli electorate. Aoun came back from Doha claiming he regained Christian rights. Bassil failed once again and Butrous Harb won yet again. Revise as much as you want, it won't change anything. Making 100 fake accounts on every article shows you have no life.

Brigadier General Roukoz, who was married to General Aoun’s daughter some years back, is a career soldier with over 30 years of service to his belt. He currently serves as the Commander of the Maghawir, or Special Forces Regiment of the Lebanese Army. He has played a leadership role in major army battles, including the Battle of Souk Al Gharb (1983), Operation Dinnieh (1999), Operation Nahr El Bared (2007) and Operation Saida (2013) against the fundamentalist forces of Sheik Assir.
Brigadier General Roukoz has been awarded many medals for valour and service at a Lebanese and international level.

Roukoz was nowhere near those places, unfortunately the tayyar has a nasty habit of muddling the facts to fit their current narrative. That said Roukoz is an excellent soldier deserving of everything he gets but Aoun's ruined any chances for promotion he's got.

At this very sensitive point in time, as Lebanon is crossing a very delicate stage of its history, instead of making all the wrong moves as usual, Aoun should shut tight his hole and leave the army make its decisions. Roukoz in my opinion is finished, by keeping so quiet about the whole issue, he has marginalized himself yo the point where most Lebanese will not want anything of him or from him. This is one officer who because of an complete idiot, will have to be retired sooner than later.

(1). General Roukoz is a fine soldier and officer, he commands our respect and admiration and this is an LFer speaking. But like everything that Aoun touches, he turns gold to dust. Aoun is an opportunist, who doesn't give a damn about Lebanon or the Christians, Aoun is Michel Aoun Incorporated. Michel Aoun keeps saying things, yet keeps denying the very principles of what he says. Now General Roukoz has become a burnt card all because of his father in law's extreme stupidity coupled with his insane greed and his culture of bastardizing the very concept of the Lebanese constitution. Aoun keeps talking as if the Lebanese Army did not have any other officer but Roukoz to replace general Qahwaji.

Tell me please what happened to the other contender to this important position, who was by far more capable, who was the hero of the Naher Al-Abared clash with the Bashaar Al-Assad group, who crossed the red line drawer by Sayed Hassan and paid the ultimate price. Bahiyya Hariri is an elected MP by the people so is Saad. Ahmad Hariri is a party official and not a government official. Basil failed the elections twice. Roukuz was not elected. Get your facts right.

مصادر عسكرية اكدت لـ"النهار" ان مؤسسة الجيش تضم راهنا 100 وضابطين مسيحيين موارنة من رتبة عميد ركن من دورات الاعوام بين 1980 و1985، يحق لكل منهم قانونا ان يتولى القيادة، بموجب المرسوم الاشتراعي الرقم 102 الصادر عام 1983 والذي ينص على ما يأتي: "يعين قائد الجيش من بين الضباط العامين المجازين بالاركان، الذين لم يسبق ان وضعوا في الاحتياط، بمرسوم يتخذ في مجلس الوزراء بناء على اقتراح وزير الدفاع الوطني". وكرس التوافق الوطني ان يكون قائد الجيش مسيحيا مارونيا. ويطرح في التداول نحو 10 اسماء بارزة، يتمتع اصحابها بصفات مميزة، وتولوا وظائف قيادية ومهمات عملانية ومراكز ادارية رفيعة، ويتمتعون بخبرة ميدانية، وخاضوا معارك مهمة اصيبوا وانتصروا فيها، تخولهم تبوّؤ هذا المركز، تماماً مثل العميد روكز. واذ لا تنكر المصادر كفاءته وشجاعته وخبرته الميدانية، يشيرون الى انه يأتي في المرتبة 14 بين رفاقه العمداء، بحسب التراتبية والاقدمية، فلماذا يحرمون الحق في تولي هذا المنصب؟ وأين تكافؤ الفرص؟
