General Security chief Maj. Gen. Abbas Ibrahim stressed Monday that ex-PM Saad Hariri is keen on Lebanon’s stability and prosperity.

“Whether he is in the opposition or the government, ex-PM Hariri is keen on Lebanon and its stability and prosperity,” Ibrahim told reporters after the meeting.

Ibrahim’s statement came in response to a question on whether the major general was behind telling PM Hassan Diab that a Lebanese politician had asked Arab states not to help Lebanon economically and whether Hariri was the politician in question.

“Ties between PM Diab and the Arab states are not severed and certainly there are contacts between them and the prime minister,” Ibrahim added, noting that Diab did not refer to Hariri in his recent remarks.

Asked whether his recent Arab tour has yielded results, the General Security chief reiterated that he did not ask for aid but rather for “finding common economic grounds” with the countries that he visited.

Ibrahim also denied that his meeting with the Saudi ambassador was “not positive or encouraging.”
