Berri Seeking to Convince Miqati to Head New Govt.

Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri is seeking to convince ex-PM Najib Miqati to lead the new government, media reports said on Wednesday.

“Ex-PM Saad Hariri has suggested during a meeting for the ex-PMs to nominate either Najib Miqati or Tammam Salam, but he ran into their refusal after they said that it is impossible to cooperate with President Michel Aoun,” Asharq al-Awsat newspaper quoted parliamentary sources as saying.

“But Berri is betting that, in cooperation with Hariri and the ex-PMs, he might convince Miqati to reconsider his decision,” the sources added.

“The parliament speaker is against the formation of a one-sided government that resembles the current resigned government and he might become obliged not to take part in the new government in order not to grant it political cover,” the sources went on to say.

The sources also revealed that Berri has communicated with Hizbullah’s leadership and with Hariri and Miqati because “he has no intention to agree to a one-sided government that lacks the ability to address the international community for assistance.”

Mustafa Adeeb resigned.....
Saad Hariri resigned.....

What would be different with Miqati? Are Aoun and Bassil going to lessen their unreasonable demands?

What a pathetic bunch of corrupt politicians. The funny thing is they all talk about transfer of power when one's term ends, but little did we know that it's transfer of power amongst themselves.

Obviously the current regime is edging more and more towards an "Executive Presidency" style of government by sidestepping or eliminating the PM.

Honestly I like that way of governing better, but on one condition, the Presidency is open to anyone and to one sect.

“ but Berri is betting that…” ..Lebanon is collapsing, people is starving and without access to healthcare and basic commodities, and the country’s leaders can afford to bet with the future of the state…

Beri and Aoun are two guys awaiting death from old age, and still are clutching to positions as if they are teenagers. They both should immediately retire, not for anything but for them being unfit to govern or even think. memory diminishes after the age of 70, let alone after eighty and ninety. They have gotten enough from stealing and sucking the Lebanese dry.
