Foreign Ministry Strongly Condemns Israeli Strike on Latakia Port

W460

Lebanon’s Foreign Ministry on Tuesday strongly condemned an Israeli strike on Syria’s Latakia port that reportedly destroyed an Iranian weapons shipment.

In a statement, the Ministry said “Lebanon’s government and people will always stand by the Syrian Arab Republic in what preserves its security, stability and the safety of its citizens.”

Israel rarely comments on the airstrikes it carries out in Syria but has said repeatedly it will not allow its archfoe Iran to extend its footprint in Syria.

Since civil war broke out in Syria in 2011, Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes on Syrian territory, targeting government positions as well as allied Iran-backed forces and Lebanese Hizbullah fighters.
