Jumblat Says Salameh's Arrest Not Best Solution for Halting Collapse

Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat on Wednesday said Central Bank Governor Riad Salameh’s arrest would not be the best solution for halting the financial and economic collapse in the country.

“What would be better: the arrest of the central bank governor by the State Security agency and putting the institution under judicial guardianship or devising a program that would preserve depositors’ rights in collaboration with the IMF in order to halt the collapse?” Jumblat asked in a tweet.

Separately, the PSP leader wondered about the reason behind “the sudden objection against the U.S. aid for the Lebanese Army.”

“Has the issue been a secret (throughout the past years?)” he asked, apparently referring to recent remarks by Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.
