Mikati sources warn of 'escalation' if Aoun stays in Baabda post term

The missions of the caretaker government are “clear before and after the end of the presidential term,” sources close to PM-designate Najib Mikati have said.

“There will be an escalation in the coming period should the way begin to be paved for the possibility of (President Michel) Aoun’s staying in the Baabda Palace following the end of his tenure,” the sources told al-Jadeed TV.

The sources also confirmed that Mikati had requested an appointment to meet with Aoun and that he was told that the answer would come “within two minutes.”

“But until this moment, the response to this request has not come,” the sources added.

What makes Naharnet think Aoun might overstay?

It's because Aoun said that it's not possible to have a presidential vacancy after the end of his term, because the government is able to assume responsibility even if it is in the stage of caretaking.
He said this in his interview with Al-Jazeera who's motto is "The opinion and the other opinion".

Aoun also said that he will not stay after his term ends.

So what will Aoun do?
The thing and it's opposite thing.
For Aoun the law is only a suggestion with multiple and opposite answers and spins.

Aoun has a history of clinging to power. In the 80's he stayed in Baabda and had to be forced out in a war that resulted in hundreds being killed. Past behavior is indicative of future behavior.
