Former president Michel Aoun held talks Friday in Bkirki with Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi, hours after a visit to Bkirki by Free Patriotic Movement chief Jebran Bassil.

“The circumstances require that we entrust His Eminence the Patriarch with the current situation,” Aoun said after the meeting.

“A lot of rights are unprotected and the (National) Pact and the constitution are being undermined,” the ex-president lamented.

“The crisis is big and it is not useful to talk a lot,” Aoun added.

The National Pact, whereby Christians were allotted seats in parliament at a ratio to six to five over all other groups combined, was superseded by the Taef Accord, where Christians and non-Christians receive equal blocs of seats.
This is reflected in the current language of Article 24 of the Lebanese Constitution.
Noam Chomsky has said that Shia Muslims by themselves make up more than half of the Lebanese population.
So what is Michael Aoun worried about?

Sorry, Michel, not Michael.
