Geagea says govt. can finance municipal vote, delay calls invalid
Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea on Thursday said that “the issue of the municipal elections has become totally in the hands of the government.”
“As for the alibi that some are clinging to in an attempt to block the elections under the excuse of funding, it is invalid, seeing as the government -- through a normal decree as it did throughout the past year -- can spend a few million dollars from the (IMF’s) Special Drawing Rights to carry out the municipal elections,” Geagea said.
“Accordingly, no one can take the lack of funds as an excuse,” the LF leader added.
