President Joseph Aoun, Speaker Nabih Berri and PM Nawaf Salam have received an Israeli message through Qatar asking that Lebanon hold political negotiations with Israel instead of holding indirect negotiations through military officers, An-Nahar newspaper reported on Friday.

“International parties told the officials that such a negotiations channel can be opened without signing a peace treaty with Tel Aviv nor opening an embassy for it in Beirut,” the daily added.

But the Israeli proposal was “swiftly rejected by Speaker Nabih Berri and Hezbollah” and “was not welcomed by President Joseph Aoun and PM Nawaf Salam,” the newspaper said.

Once again Berri trying to show that he controls Lebanon for his Hizballah accomplices. The comment in the newspaper, if correct regarding President Aoun and Prime Minister Salam, just goes to show that Lebanon is not interested in peace on its borders. Remember the famous saying, "Peace you make with your enemies, not with your friends."
