The ministerial committee tasked with following up the leasing of power-generating vessels kicked off negotiations with the two companies, a Turkish and an American, which won the tenders, An Nahar newspaper reported on Friday.
The daily said that Prime Minister Najib Miqati headed the primary negotiations with the two companies’ representatives, although the committee members are set to resume their meetings on Monday.
Sources in the committee said that the negotiations led to dropping the price to around $470 million.
According to the daily, negotiations are ongoing to improve the conditions of the contracts concerning reducing the leasing period to two years renewable for one year and decreasing the amount of power provided by the vessels to 270 megawatts.
The cabinet agreed Wednesday to lease the power-generating vessels for a maximum of three years to produce 270 megawatts and to construct power plants of 1,500-megawatt capacity.
An Nahar said that the cabinet also approved reactivating Electricite du Liban board of directors.
Lebanon has long suffered from electricity outages because of shortages at its power plants whose maximum capacity is less than 1,500 megawatts but the country’s actual need exceeds 2,300 megawatts.

It was not dropped out of nowhere, the price was dropped because the leasing period was reduced almost by half, so was the power capacity, obviously the price would go down too, duh.
Some people just gave up on thinking.

So we give the people electricity and they dont pay their dues? what a waste of country resources.

You judge things based on the side who is implementig them, you're blinded by 8th/14th and don't look at the actual proposals.
If it had been proposed by a 14th of marcher, you would have said the opposite of what you say today and you would have praised him for ending the ages of darkness that have been ruling Lebanon. But because it was proposed by a aounist, you will just blindly criticize it whatever it is.
btw, i'm not aounist, not even 8th of march, that proves how blinded and nonobjective you are.
The facts are, a proposal was given to solve the electrical problem, and the government, as a team, as a whole, was able to come up with a maybe more suitable plan. Plans are not being approved or disapproved blindly, they are being studied and improved. If you call that incompetence, then I'm glad your team is out of the government. Ministries are no longer dkekin kell wa7ad feite7a 3a 7seibo.

$470M that's how much Aoun , Bassil and the Orange thugs wanted to steal from the pockets of poor Leanese people with full support from the criminal HizbulShaitan!

i bet Hezbolla will make trouble on this if the american company gets it hahahaha.
why do i have a feeling that hezbollah wont let the american GE company build the new power plant?
Oh wait - they might start a war and israel will bomb it before they build it ....
This is all a waste of Cash, the private sector should build the plants and sell the power - end of story. Untill such time that the government can guarantee peace and security.
