Four home-made bombs exploded simultaneously in an Istanbul district Tuesday, causing minor damage to an office of the ruling party but no injuries, Anatolia news agency reported.

One of the bombs was thrown onto the balcony of a building housing an office of the ruling Justice and Development Party, while the others appeared to have been set off at random in the same Umraniye district.

"We do not know if the attack was targeting the party, because there are other bombs thrown elsewhere," Umraniye mayor Hasan Can told Anatolia news agency.

The explosions broke the windows of surrounding buildings and cars, and triggered a small fire in a supermarket.

They came a day after another bomb placed in a rubbish bin went off close to a public building, slightly injuring two passers-by.

A home-made bomb left on an Istanbul hotel driveway was also made safe by police on Monday.

Several outlawed armed groups -- Kurds, Islamists and leftist extremists -- have carried out bomb attacks in Istanbul and Ankara in recent months.

It was not clear whether the attacks were connected and there was no immediate claim of responsibility.
