New Israeli Strikes Push Gaza Death Toll to 44

Four Palestinians were killed in new Israeli air strikes on central Gaza Saturday, raising the death toll from 72 hours of raids to 44, the emergency services said.

A statement first announced two deaths in a strike on Deir al-Balah, then added an additional two deaths in a strike on the Masdar area, also in central Gaza.

There were no immediate details on whether the four were civilians or militants.

At least four people were injured in the strike in Deir al-Balah, which followed multiple strikes during the day that killed 10 Palestinians, eight of them militants.

The statement added that at least two Palestinians were in critical condition after an air strike on their car in the Zeitun neighborhood of Gaza City, adding that another two were also in serious condition after a strike on a motorbike in Khan Yunis, in central Gaza.

Nine Israelis including four soldiers were hurt by rocket fire, medics said.

The bloodshed raised to 44 the total number of Palestinians killed in just over 72 hours of Israeli air strikes, while another 393 were injured, Gaza's emergency services said.

Over the same period, three Israelis have been killed by rockets and another 18 injured, 10 of them soldiers, police and the army said.

Earlier attacks on Rafah killed five people -- an ambulance worker called Awad Nahal and four Hamas militants.

One of the militants was named as Mukhlis Adwan, but the identities of the other three were not immediately available.

Another three people -- all Hamas militants -- were killed in a strike on Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza, with security sources naming them as Ali Manameh, Hossam Abdel Jawad and Assaf Gharwish.

Palestinian medics said another man, an Islamic Jihad militant wounded in a strike on Zeitun in Gaza City earlier in the day, died of his injuries. They named him as Mohammed Yassin, 24.

Meanwhile in Israel, nine people were injured by rocket fire on Saturday.

Four were soldiers who sustained light injuries, the army said, with military sources saying they were "inside a building" at the time.

The military said the incident occurred in the Eshkol regional council area, and Hamas militants claimed the attack, saying they had fired five mortar rounds at a "position" in Reim some eight kilometers (five miles) from central Gaza.

During the afternoon, another five Israelis were lightly injured when four rockets hit the southern coastal town of Ashdod, scoring direct hits on a block of flats and a vehicle, the police and army said.

Somehow I think this Gaza attack is a prelude to the strike on Iran's Nukes. It is giving Israel the excuse of calling up reserves, testing the iron dome defense system and few other preparations under the pre-text of a Gaza invasion.
If my predictions came true I will then make a career of it, until then I will keep my current job.

@helicopter
A reasonable assumption on your part. From my perspective, Iran has had three pillars planted in the heart of the Arab world, first, the Syrian regime of Assad. Second, HA in Lebanon and third, Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

The Syrian regime is being dismantled as is now clear to everyone and that pillar will soon fall. The Israelis, likely with America tacit approval, will dismantle the second pillar. That leaves the third HA.

When the US and Iran get down to serious negotiations they will either reach a solution or the third pillar along with its master/creators in Tehran will be demolished.

Whatever the case may be, I am keeping my day job and recommend you do the same :-)

neither HA nor Hamas are existential threats to israel. Israel needs enemies to justify all the money it steals from the US tax payers. Israel does not have a real problem with HA and realisticaly neither does HA since israel left she3a lands in 2000. HA main objective since it liberated its territory is to take over lebanon. The 2006 war with israel has taught HA that adventures done against israel to justify local hegemony of arms is very pricy, Hence HA inaction in 2009 during cast lead and Hence their inaction today: they simply do not care and it does not serve their objectives to go to war (i.e conquering lebanon).

@realist
While you are certainly entitled to your opinion, your analyses comes across as a bit too superficial my friend.

Having read some of your other posts I know you are not pro HA, but really dude you need to realize that HA is nothing but an Iranian extension in our midst and as such is definitely considered a threat by Israel.

Bottom line, HA and Iran and everyone else plays their dirt games in Lebanon all at the expense of us Lebanese.

there will be no attack against iran, and iran will make a deal with the US at the end of the day. The US needs she3a iran against the Suni Arab world.

Israel has the absolute right to defend itself. When Turkey bombs kurdish positions in Iraq, nobody cares, why is it that when Israel does the same there is so much fuss?? Yes, go ahead Israel, bomb the shit out of these terrorists...

They promise Israel with annihilation from a safe distance while they drag the Palestinains into another destructive war.
When will this detrimental gullibility end?
Peace with Israel is possible but will never be realized as long as the Iranian and the Syrian regimes remain capable of supporting extremism and igniting fights. They should be disabled before any hope for stability and peace in the region could be realized.

peace asks real men to do it, while war is so easy to do....

and may I add... Iran is the the Dog on an American/Israeli leash ... and they do their bidding to create hell for the Muslims but sometimes the dog really tries to pull hard on that leash and the leash strains (i.e. they want there own Nuclear Bomb)... its all an elaborate act to fool all people on all sides...to create mischief in the land.

since when you aounis give a shit about palestine?!? nice joke

This is an attempt by israel/iran to diffuse attention away from Syria. Israel/iran are tacit allies against the suni Arabs. This is the reality, Iran conquers arab land in UAE and so does israel. Persians are far more racist against Arabs than jews, two faces of the same coin

Thumb up to realist. He has most reasonable comments . Am sure u live outside Lebanon, what gives you the power to see the full picture. What you said is true about HA and Iran there are dealss being signed under the table with US. I just feel sad for Lebanon to see it ruled by ha. And hope it won't happen
