Speaker Nabih Berri urged on Wednesday the need to reactivate the functioning of official institutions, starting with the parliament.
He stressed the need to “tackle all national duties that concern Lebanon and the Lebanese people away from political bickering and calculations.”
On this note, he emphasized the need to resume discussions over a new parliamentary electoral law in order to hold the 2013 elections on time.
The speaker made his remarks during his weekly meeting with MPs at Ain el-Tineh.
Furthermore, Berri revealed that he will follow up on the matter of resumption parliamentary activity with March 14 MPs who requested a meeting with him.
The date of the meeting was not disclosed.
The March 14-led opposition announced in October its boycott of government-related work in light of the assassination of Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau head Brigadier General Wissam al-Hasan on October 19.
It did announced on Monday however that it would take part in parliamentary subcommittee meetings dedicated to discussing the parliamentary electoral law on condition that no government representative be present.
