Army Arrests Two Suspects, Comes under Fire during Hermel Raids

The army conducted raids in the eastern town of Hereml on Thursday, arresting two people wanted on a number of charges, it announced in a statement.

Voice of Lebanon radio (93.3) identified the suspects as Imad Nassereddine and Mohammed al-Dennaoui.

The Army Command added that it closed a drug factory, confiscated all of its equipment, and seized a sizable amount of drugs.

Furthermore, the army seized a number of medium and light weapons.

A number of gunmen had opened fire at the army as it was conducting its raids, said the statement.

Army units are still chasing the assailants who fled to the outskirts of Hermel, it stated.

Investigations are underway with the arrested suspects and over the drug factory.
