Nabil Arabi Says Consequences of Syria Crisis on Lebanon 'Alarming'

Arab League chief Nabil al-Arabi stated on Saturday that the repercussions of Syria's conflict on Lebanon are “alarming”.

“The ongoing war in Syria has had tremendous consequences on its neighboring countries, particularly on Lebanon,” al-Arabi told MTV.

“I hope Syria's situation changes to the better soon,” he added.

More than 60,000 people, mostly civilians, have been killed in Syria's conflict since its eruption in March 2011, according to the United Nations, while the Observatory says it has documented more than 48,000 dead.

The conflict has sent some 600,000 people fleeing the country, most of them to neighboring countries, according to the U.N.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees announced on Saturday that the number of Syrians and Palestinians who have fled the neighboring war-torn country and came to Lebanon has exceeded 212,000.
