Woman Insulted, Kicked Out of Restaurant for Protesting Smoke-Ban Violation

A Lebanese woman has reportedly been insulted and kicked out of a restaurant in Lebanon for protesting the violation of the smoking ban law, LBCI television said on Friday.
“Dalal Mouawad was verbally attacked when she asked the restaurant's manager to respect the ban,” LBCI detailed.
Mouawad took to her page on social media to share her experience: “I noticed the presence of smokers at the restaurant on Thursday and I complained about it to the manager”.
"He, however, responded by insulting me,” she added.
LBCI said the restaurant's manager issued an apology, describing the incidence as a “misunderstanding” and stressing that they abide by the smoking ban law.
Mouawad expressed: “This is an individual incidence but what matters here is the protection of citizens calling for respecting the law”.
The ban came into effect in September 2012 in accordance to Law 174, which passed a year ago.
A minimum LL135,000 ($90) fine for non-compliance with the new smoke-free regulations will be applied to both the owners and the smokers themselves.
The National Tobacco Control Program of the Health Ministry says more than 3,500 Lebanese die each year from tobacco-related diseases.

I am a smoker... and feel very strongly that law is law... and that public places must be smoke-free. It works in most countries, including Greece and Turkey where smoking is as wide-spread as Lebanon.
