Report: March 14 Leaders to Skip Anniversary over Security Threats

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

Leaders of the March 14 alliance are expected to be absent from the coalition's eighth anniversary of the formation of the movement at the Beirut International Exhibition and Leisure Center (BIEL) on March 17.

Sources close to the March 14 General Secretariat told al-Liwaa newspaper published on Monday that the alliance's leaders will not be able to attend the celebration over security fears.

The sources pointed out that contacts are ongoing to settle which leaders will attend the ceremony.

They added that speeches at the event might only be limited to civil activists if Phalange Party leader Amin Gemayel and Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea decided not to attend over security threats.

The coalition takes its name from the historic demonstration in downtown Beirut's Martyrs Square on March 14, 2005 that ultimately led to the withdrawal of Syrian forces from Lebanon in the aftermath of ex-Premier Rafik Hariri's assassination.

Better yet let's just divide it in to religious federations. One for the Christians, one for the Shiites, one for the sunni's and one for the Druze and whomever doesn't fall within the other 3. That's all you seem to do Karim, talk bullshit with a religious element. What makes you better than the Wahhabis? What makes farsi's better than Wahhabis and vice versa? They are all the same. Whomever spreads hate in the name of religion shouldn't be welcome in Lebanon.

FT You obviously didn't comprehend the sarcasm in what I wrote.

christians and shia are in agreement??? haha... suuuuure they are.

Why would the adversaries of March 14 want to harm them? They are doing a much better job of hurting themselves than their rivals could ever hope to do.

Failing to seize the initiative after the Assassination of Wissam al-Hassan by calling for an immediate resignation of government they have been plagued by their own blunders and support of the Wahhabi.

Why would the leaders of March 14 want to show up to answer many embarrassing questions? The truth about their real allegiances and corruption will "dog them" into obscurity.

They didn't fight" they sent people to fight for them, that's even worse!!!

What a shocker! mowaten and flamer salivating in joy of the results of the terrorism and murders committed by the people they support. Clearly the people not attending have not been targeted at all. Clearly they have not lost brothers, sisters, children and friends. It’s all an excuse!

who will threaten M14 other than those oppose to it? who is threatened by M14? syria which cannot stand a party opposed to it... and with syria its lebanese allies...
so those happy of these security threats should be ashamed that a lebanese party is threatened only to defend its ideas. it only shows how narrow minded and totalitarian they are. and these very same group of people talk about living side by side with other sects? how can their intolerance tolerate other sects and points of view? they just deserve to live under the boots of a dicatator and shut up...

I don't understand who would thumb down what @the1phoenix has written above? The man did not offend anyone and is speaking from the heart about a country on the brink. Beyond me why those sentiments deserve to be thumbed down. I concur with his observation about the ridiculous discourse the comments have been taking of late. One also notes the proliferation of commentators partial to M8. In my opinion, those guys are all shills much as that article @mowaten shared.
Having divergent views is healthy, expressing the divergence in the manner that has been promulgated here is the epitome of unhealthy. ويلك يا لبنان

There definitely is a great security threat to March 14, and this threat is defined as a lack-luster, boring, useless and a no-longer-popular to be populous anniversary where practically nobody cares to show up. Happy anniversary.

Allah ye7mik ya Phoenix. Your words are wise and straight to the heart, just like those of Sheikh Bachir Allah yer7amo whom you seem to respect as well.
Lebanon with ALL the lebanese is nothing and we will always insist on having ALL the Lebanese in Lebanon regardless of how the others feel.

YA Greenie, just remember that to them you are exactly how you described them to be!

If everyone has the same way of thinking and ideology and beleifs as each other then life would be boring and we would be machines. We need to learn how to respect the differences and raise over taking them personally. I know this is easier to say than to do and I fall victim to that many times, but we need to strive to be better or else we are better off growing a tail and barking!
