Russia Sees 'No Concession' in U.S. Missile Defense Move

Russia said on Monday it saw "no concession" in the U.S. decision to abandon the final phase of its missile shield for Europe while deploying new interceptors against a possible attack from North Korea.

"This is not a concession to Russia and we do not see it as such," Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told the Kommersant business daily. "Our objections remain."

U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said Friday that 14 more interceptors would be stationed in Alaska -- increasing by almost half the 30 already deployed along the western coastline. The aim is to have them in place by 2017.

North Korea has threatened to unleash a second Korean War -- backed by nuclear weapons -- in response to U.N. sanctions imposed after its third atomic test in February and joint South Korea-U.S. military maneuvers.

The U.S. decision means it will not go through with the fourth phase of its missile defense deployments in Europe under which interceptors trained on Iran were due to have been placed in Poland.

Hagel said the decision was part of an overall restructuring of how Washington viewed missile defense and international threats.

Russia has long argued that the European missile shield was aimed against its own nuclear deterrent and has held up negotiations on other disarmament agreements as a result.

Ryabkov said that Russia believed that extra U.S. interceptors in Alaska "significantly expand U.S. capabilities in the area of missile defense."

"We are not experiencing any euphoria about this," he added.

Kommersant said that Ryabkov was due to meet Tuesday in Geneva with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Rose Gottemoeller to discuss the issue further.

Dear Russia,
Please blame North Korea for its aggressive stance. We wish no quarrel with you, but North Korea is becoming very aggressive, and threatening us, as well as others, and is possibly acting in concert with Iran, which is not slowing its nuclear program. We are sure you are doing your part to make them see reason, but you know that is not easy, and requires physical deterrent, as well, unfortunately.
To Russia, with love, from your friends in the United States <3
P.S. We still appreciate the WWII alliance.

America's only "solution" for all the problems around the world has been the escalation of aggression. The position of the USA has reaped a bitter harvest of death and destruction measured by hundreds of millions harmed financially, tens of millions displaced and uncounted millions of premature deaths due to the destruction of infrastructure, boycotts and the implementation of ethnic and sectarian hatred and segregation.

The Americans has raped all of the Middle East, west and North Africa as well as Afghanistan and Pakistan , and now they are paying a high price for it.

Agreed ... but not quite all of the middle east. They have spared even embraced Israel and the GCC states where most of Lebanon's trouble initiates ...

Mckin1 absolutely right that's because those gcc states &saudi Arabia are oil rich, but when money runs out what is installed for them is exactly the same as any other middle eastern countries, the twist is that all elements of fanatics are the products of those very countries that America are protecting. Especially Saudi Arabia - the root of all evil !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
