Saniora: If I Were Miqati, I Would Have Abstained from Voting on Arab Decision on Syria

The head of the Mustaqbal bloc MP Fouad Saniora stressed that Lebanon does not meddle in the developments in Syria, saying that it does not believe in adopting such policies because it has nothing to gain from them and it isn’t even capable of intervening in Syria.

He told the pan-Arab daily Asharq al-Awsat in remarks published on Saturday: “If I were Prime Minister Najib Miqati, I would have abstained from voting on the Arab foreign ministers’ decision to suspend Syria’s membership in the Arab League.”

Opposition Rejects Calls for Dialogue if Hizbullah’s Arms Won’t Be Addressed

President Michel Suleiman and Speaker Nabih Berri’s calls to resume the national dialogue have remained unanswered given the division between the government forces and opposition over the purpose of holding the talks, reported the daily An Nahar on Saturday.

It said that the two officials were expected to hold talks after the last week’s al-Adha holiday in order to discuss resuming the dialogue, but the meeting did not transpire.

Saniora Meets Miqati, Snaps Back at Nasrallah for Linking UNESCO to STL Funding

Al-Mustaqbal bloc leader Fouad Saniora on Saturday snapped back at Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah over his accusations that the former PM guaranteed a way out for the U.S. after it rejected to fund the United Nations cultural agency UNESCO.

Following closed-door talks with Premier Najib Miqati on the sidelines of the Dar al-Fatwa meeting, Saniora said: “Linking the funding of UNESCO and the international tribunal is inappropriate because the issue of the court has to do with Lebanon’s commitment and cooperation with it.”

March 14 Rejects Fruitless Dialogue that is Held for Appearances

March 14 MPs have rejected to become “false witnesses” in Speaker Nabih Berri’s renewed initiative to launch the national dialogue, saying the all-party talks would end up in the vicious cycle of Hizbullah’s arms.

In remarks to pan-Arab daily Asharq al-Awsat published on Monday, MP Elie Marouni said that the March 14-led opposition “rejects to become the false witness of a dialogue that is called for by the March 8 forces.”

Berri Reiterates Call for Dialogue during ‘Critical’ Stage

Speaker Nabih Berri reiterated on Friday the call for dialogue between the Lebanese foes during the “critical” stage that the country and the region are passing through.

Death of Saudi Crown Prince Delays Cabinet Session
