Prime Minister Fouad Saniora stated on Wednesday that the Mustaqbal bloc’s call that Hizbullah’s arms be the only issue at the national dialogue table cannot be considered as a precondition seeing as this is the only issue left to be discussed at the table.
Saniora said in a statement: “We are all aspiring for the rise of the fair and capable state, which controls the arms and is able of confronting Israel.”

Head of al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc Fouad Saniora has accused Premier Najib Miqati’s cabinet of seeking to pave way for Hizbullah’s full control of the state.
“The objective of the current government is to pave way for the full control of the arms party and the logic of armed men on the nation and the state,” Saniora said during a dinner banquet thrown by MP Mohammed al-Hajjar at his residence in Shehim.

Street action won’t be able to topple Prime Minister Najib Miqati’s government, “not now, not later,” a parliamentary majority source told As Safir newspaper in remarks published on Friday.
It said that the March 14 camp had nullified the use of such an option when it had previously ignored the massive popular protests that called for the toppling of the government headed by Premier Fouad Saniora.

The head of the Mustaqbal bloc former Premier Fouad Saniora voiced on Thursday his support for the rotation of power in Lebanon, saying that if the March 8 camp won the majority then it would have had the right to form a government.
He said during the parliament session to discuss the government policy statement: “It however assumed power through the use of weapons and we reject this and we refuse to succumb to it.”

Head of the Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc, former premier Fouad Saniora, on Wednesday noted that “no one can assert with certainty the release date of the indictment” of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon in the case of former premier Rafik Hariri’s 2005 assassination.
Asked about reports that the release of the indictment was imminent and the possible impact on the new government, Saniora said he did not believe the reports were aimed at “challenging the current government or embarrassing it regarding the issue of the ministerial Policy Statement.”

Head of the Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc, former premier Fouad Saniora, vowed Sunday that the March 14 camp will hold onto its stances and “remain committed to its values and principles.”
“In the face of the coup and those who have staged a coup against the democratic system by means of force and intimidation, we won’t be dragged into using force as a method,” Saniora pledged.
Tripoli Mufti Sheikh Malek al-Shaar has hoped for the announcement of a leadership council over the weekend to contain any incident that could erupt in the northern city.
In remarks to al-Liwaa daily published Tuesday, al-Shaar said that a committee was formed on Monday after a meeting held between al-Mustaqbal bloc leader Fouad Saniora and Tripoli MPs and officials.

Economy Minister Nicolas Nahhas on Sunday hit back at the head of the Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc, former premier Fouad Saniora, over the latter’s remarks in which he wondered whether Prime Minister Najib Miqati was designated as a premier to “eradicate” ex-PM Rafik Hariri’s legacy.
“I regret that these remarks were voiced by ex-PM Saniora, who knows PM Miqati quite well,” Nahhas, who is close to Miqati, said.

Head of the Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc, former premier Fouad Saniora, on Sunday snapped back at Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun over the latter’s recent remarks against ex-PM Saad Hariri and “the policies of ex-PM Rafik Hariri.”
“We have recently heard remarks full of spite, malice and tension, such as those voiced by someone who said he had given (ex-)PM Saad Hariri a ‘one-way ticket,”’ Saniora said of Aoun, without naming him.

The March 14 forces might resort to adopting a “mobile” draft-law to thwart an attempt by Speaker Nabih Berri to hold a parliamentary session on June 8 to renew the mandate of the Central Bank governor.
Berri is seeking to give the parliament executive powers amid an absence of a government and a need to find solutions to pressing issues such as the renewal of Riyad Salameh’s mandate and amnesty for several prisoners.
