Israeli warplanes struck Syrian army targets on the Golan Heights early Wednesday hours after rockets hit the Israeli-held sector, in what the Jewish state said was "a clear message" to Damascus.
The incident took place just 10 days after another Israeli air strike on the same areas of the Syrian Golan killed six Hezbollah fighters and an Iranian general, sending tensions soaring on the strategic plateau, half of which is occupied by Israel.

The state-run National News Agency reported that Israeli warplanes have been flying over the eastern sector since 2:00 am. The drones flew over Arqoub, Hasbaya, Rashaya and Mount Hermon (Jabal al-Sheikh) heights.

Speaker Nabih Berri reached an understanding with Foreign Minister Jebran Bassil to resolve two controversial files that had been a point of contention between him and Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun, a report said Wednesday.
Berri and Bassil, who is Aoun's son-in-law and a top FPM official, held talks on Tuesday in Ain el-Tineh for more than 90 minutes.

An Israeli rights group Wednesday criticized the government for what it called a deliberate policy of launching air strikes on homes that killed hundreds of civilians during last year's Gaza war.

The U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees said on Tuesday that it cannot afford to repair Gaza homes damaged in last year's war with Israel because donors have failed to pay.
"The agency has exhausted all funding to support repairs and rental subsidies," said the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).

The Israeli military has dismissed 43 reserve soldiers from its most prestigious intelligence unit after they publicly denounced abuses committed against Palestinians, army radio said Monday.
In a letter published by Israeli media in September, the 43 reservists who belonged to the spying unit said they refused to serve in order to avoid participating in injustices carried out against the Palestinians.
