Israel Lets 14,000 Tonnes of Building Material into Gaza

Israel allowed 14,000 tonnes of building material into war-devastated Gaza on Wednesday, the defense ministry said of the largest single shipment since a July-August conflict ended in the blockaded territory.

COGAT, the coordinating body for Israeli government policy in the Palestinian territories, told Agence France Presse that some 354 trucks passed through the Kerem Shalom goods crossing in the southern Gaza Strip carrying "construction materials", without elaborating.

UNIFIL Commander Says Israel Obligated to Withdraw from Northern Section of Ghajar

United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) Commander Maj. Gen. Luciano Portolano stressed on Wednesday that Israel is obligated to withdraw from the northern section of the village of Ghajar, as well as the areas adjacent to the Blue Line in accordance with U.N. Security Council resolution 1701.

“Its presence in the area violates resolution 1701,” Portolano said in an interview with As Safir newspaper.

Mortar Fire from Syria Hits Israeli-Occupied Golan

Two mortar rounds fired from Syria struck open areas of the Israeli-occupied sector of the Golan Heights on Tuesday, an Israeli security source said.

"Two mortar shells fell in the northern sector of the Golan Heights," the source told AFP, saying it was a result of stray fire from fighting inside Syria and had caused no casualties or damage.

Hundreds of Arab Israelis Protest over Home Demolitions

Some 2,000 Arab Israelis demonstrated in Tel Aviv Tuesday against a wave of house demolitions, capping a day in which Arab shops, schools and businesses observed a general strike.

The protesters gathered at Rabin Square in the center of Israel's commercial capital, waving Palestinian flags and wearing headscarves as police officers stood by in case of disturbances.

Palestinian Shot by Israel Army Dies of Wounds

A Palestinian who was shot by Israeli troops while trying to cross the separation barrier in the northern West Bank, died of his injuries Tuesday, medical and security sources said. 

"Mohammed Yehya, aged 18, died in Nablus hospital after being shot in the leg yesterday (Monday) night during an Israeli army operation in Araqa village west of Jenin," a medical source said.

U.N. Report: Israel Responsible for Gaza Shelter Attacks

Babies from Nepal Born to Surrogates Arrive in Israel

Israel began repatriating its nationals from quake-hit Nepal Monday, including two groups of babies born to surrogate mothers in Kathmandu whose fathers are homosexual Israelis, officials said.

Three of the newborns arrived on a military plane in the morning, and five others landed at noon on an aircraft commissioned by Magen David Adom, Israel's emergency medical service, which had brought medics to Nepal on Sunday.

Palestinian Charged with Jerusalem Car Killing

The Jerusalem District Attorney on Monday charged a Palestinian with deliberately running down two Israeli pedestrians this month, killing a man and seriously injuring a woman, the justice ministry said.

It said in a statement that 37-year-old Khaled Kutina, a resident of the West Bank village of Anata just outside Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem, was charged with murdering 26-year-old Shalom Yohai Cherki and the attempted murder of 20-year-old Shira Klein.
