Jewish Man Stabs Arab Israeli in Hate Attack

A man allegedly shouting "death to Arabs" stabbed and wounded an Arab Israeli on Monday in the town of Herzliya near Tel Aviv, police said.

Spokeswoman Luba Samri said in a statement that police arrested a local Jewish Israeli suspected of the attack, in which a municipal cleaner from the Galilee village of Kafr Manda was lightly injured.

Egyptian Jailed for Life on Israel Spy Charges

An Egyptian court Sunday sentenced to jail a man convicted of spying for Israel in the Sinai Peninsula where security forces are fighting an Islamist insurgency, judicial officials said.

Two Israeli accomplices of the jailed Egyptian were tried in absentia and also given life terms, the officials added.

Israeli Port City Closes 5 Factories over Cancer Fears

The mayor of Haifa, Israel's third largest city, ordered Sunday the closure of five petrochemical plants following a health ministry warning linking high cancer rates to air pollution. 

Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav further said that municipality trucks were blocking the entrances to Israel Oil Refineries and Petroleum & Energy Infrastructures, both of which are based on the bay in the northern port city.

Netanyahu to Request Extra Time for Forming Govt.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is to make a formal request for extra time to piece together a new government, the president's office said Sunday.

After a surprise election victory, Netanyahu was on March 25 tasked by President Reuven Rivlin with forming the next government and given four weeks to do so.

Blast Outside U.N. Refugee Agency HQ in Gaza

An explosive device was detonated outside the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees in Gaza City overnight, without causing any injuries, U.N. and Palestinian security sources said late Saturday. 

"A bomb exploded near the outer wall of UNRWA's headquarters in Gaza, some 10 metres (yards) from the gate, without causing any injuries or damage," agency spokesman Adnan Abu Hasna told Agence France Presse.

Police: Palestinian Driver Deliberately Killed Israeli

A Palestinian driver deliberately rammed his car into a Jerusalem bus stop this week and killed an Israeli man in a "horrible attack", police chief Yohanan Danino said on Saturday.

"Today we can say that it is a horrible attack," Danino said in a statement after an investigation into Wednesday's incident.

Palestinian Prisoners Languish in Mideast Stalemate

Hadi al-Fakhri was 26 the first time he hugged his father, one of thousands of Palestinians serving time in Israeli prisons for militant activity in the occupied West Bank.

A decade later, more than 30 years into a life sentence, Fakhri's father was freed when more than 1,000 prisoners were swapped for a single Israeli soldier held by Palestinian Islamist group Hamas for five years.
