Two Israeli men were remanded in custody Friday after allegedly raising a false alarm of a possible kidnapping by Palestinian militants in the West Bank to impress an ex-girlfriend.

The hoax report centred on the same area of the occupied West Bank where three Israeli teenagers were kidnapped and murdered less than a year ago.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demanded that Iranian recognition of Israel's right to exist be written into an emerging nuclear deal, as he convened top officials for talks on Friday.  

After meeting his security cabinet, which comprises key ministers, National Security Adviser Yossi Cohen and other officials, he said they were unanimous in their opposition to the framework agreement which emerged Thursday from marathon talks in Switzerland between the Islamic republic and world powers.

Israeli Intelligence Minister Yuval Steinitz said Thursday that all options including military action were on the table in the face of the threat of a nuclear-armed Iran.

Speaking to public radio as crunch talks on Iran's nuclear program continued in Switzerland, Steinitz said Israel would seek to counter any threat through diplomacy and intelligence but "if we have no choice we have no choice... the military option is on the table."

A guard at the Lebanese parliament, who has been recently arrested for suspected ties with Israel, was proved to be innocent but investigators found links between his wife and the Mossad, al-Joumhouria newspaper reported on Thursday.

The unidentified guard was apprehended several weeks ago after police raided his house and took two laptops that belong to him and his wife, it said.

An Israeli committee has approved controversial plans for eventual construction of 2,200 Palestinian homes in occupied east Jerusalem, a spokeswoman said Wednesday, in the largest such project since 1967.

NGO Ir Amim described the plan to develop the Arab al-Sawahra neighborhood as the largest planning procedure for east Jerusalem Palestinians since Israel seized the territory in the Six-Day War.

U.S. House Speaker John Boehner and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hailed Wednesday the "strong" ties between their nations, amid tensions between Netanyahu and the Obama administration. 

But ahead of a meeting in Jerusalem, they both avoided directly addressing negotiations between world powers and Iran over Tehran's contested nuclear program.

World powers must toughen their stance to reach a "better" deal with Iran aimed at preventing it from obtaining nuclear weapons, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Wednesday.

"The concessions offered to Iran in Lausanne would ensure a bad deal that would endanger Israel, the Middle East and the peace of the world," Netanyahu said of ongoing negotiations in Switzerland.

Israel is set to force illegal African migrants to choose between leaving to a "safe third-party" country in Africa or face imprisonment, the interior ministry said.

A statement from the ministry's population and immigration authority said the measure would apply to migrants currently at the southern Holot detention centre, "who infiltrated Israel and cannot be expelled to their country of origin". 

Israeli prosecutors Monday charged a Palestinian resident of east Jerusalem with allegedly trying to join the Islamic State jihadist group in Syria, the Shin Bet domestic security agency said.

Khalil Adel Khalil, born in 1990 and a resident of A-Tur neighborhood, had been inspired by IS videos and in August resolved to join it in Syria, a Shin Bet statement said.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned world powers on Monday that any nuclear deal they strike with Iran would be seen as a reward for Tehran's alleged "aggression" in Yemen.

"The agreement being formulated in Lausanne sends a message that there is no price for aggression and on the contrary -- that Iran's aggression is to be rewarded," he said, referring to Iranian support for Shiite Huthi rebels in Yemen.
