President Michel Suleiman has telephoned Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea to congratulate him on the announcement of his candidacy for the presidential elections and his platform, the LF chief's press office said Thursday.
The terse statement said the phone conversation between Suleiman and Geagea took place on Wednesday night.

Al-Mustaqbal Movement will adopt the candidacy of its ally Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea for the presidency, al-Akhbar newspaper reported on Thursday.
Sources close to the LF said in remarks published in the daily that Mustaqbal lawmaker Ahmed Fatfat, who attended Geagea's presidential program launching in Maarab on Wednesday, has reportedly informed the Christian leader of al-Mustaqbal's candidate.

Speaker Nabih Berri has denied that the parliament would not be able to vote on the controversial wage scale after he called on MPs to meet to elect a new president on April 23.
“The two issues are not linked,” the speaker told An Nahar newspaper published on Thursday.

Kataeb party leader Amin Gemayel has informed his allies that he would officially announce his candidacy for the presidency, the party's officials said.
As Safir daily quoted the officials, who were not identified, as saying that Gemayel, a former president, informed the March 14 coalition that he would make the announcement by the end of this week.

Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat refused to reveal the name of his candidate to the presidency a day after Speaker Nabih Berri called for a session to elect a new head of state.
“Those who want to know my candidate for the presidency should wait until the parliamentary session,” Jumblat said in comments published in As Safir newspaper.
President Michel Suleiman on Wednesday called on all parties to guarantee the appropriate atmosphere to avoid vacuum as parliament is expected to convene next week to elect a new head of state.
During a cabinet session held at Baabda Palace, Suleiman said: “Vacuum is unacceptable. Laws haven't been put in place so that we fall in vacuum.”

The session is scheduled to be held at 12:00 pm.

Speaker Nabih Berri sought to appease on Monday Progressive Socialist Party chief Walid Jumblat, who has expressed fears over the state's failure to fund a new wage scale deliberated by lawmakers.
In remarks carried by local dailies on Monday, Berri said: “When Mr. Walid checks the chart, he will be reassured and find the reform articles that have been introduced (to the draft-law) to prevent squandering of funds and corruption.”

Speaker Nabih Berri called for a parliamentary session next week to discuss the new wage scale draft-law a day after the Joint Parliamentary Committees wrapped tackling it and referred it to the general assembly.
The state-run National News Agency reported that Berri called for a parliamentary session on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. to finish discussions on the new salary scale.

Speaker Nabih Berri informed Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi that he will call for the first round of parliamentary sessions to elect a new president next week.
According to An Nahar newspaper published on Saturday, Berri and al-Rahi discussed in a telephone conversation, ahead of the Patriarch's return from Geneva, the upcoming presidential elections.
