MP Michel Murr is expected to meet with his former ally Free Patriotic Movement chief MP Michel Aoun “soon” after differences drew them apart five years ago, al-Akhbar newspaper reported on Friday.

Murr will visit Aoun in Rabieh “very soon” to revive their alliance in the Metn district and agree on the presidential elections, the daily said.

The parliament on Thursday wrapped up a plenary legislative session that spanned three days, after approving several key bills and postponing a host of draft laws, amid a heated exchange between MPs Sami Gemayel and Assem Qansou.

The legislature also decided to refer to parliamentary committees a number of urgent bills after determining that they need further debate.

A draft-law regarding the working status of Electricite du Liban contract workers was endorsed by the parliament on Wednesday with some modifications.

“The speaker and MPs agree on the suggestions demanded by the contract workers,” AMAL MP Ali Bazzi said from the parliament after the draft-law was adopted.

Air traffic controllers suspended on Tuesday work at Beirut's Rafik Hariri International Airport for two hours to protest the cabinet's failure to include them in the new wage scale draft-law.

Inbound and outbound flights from the airport were suspended as the air traffic will resume normally at 12:00 p.m.

Head of the Marada Movement MP Suleiman Franjieh stated on Monday that he is keen on the election of a president within the constitutional deadline.

He said after holding talks with Speaker Nabih Berri's presidential elections committee: “We seek the election of a strong president as do all the Lebanese people.”

The Syndicate Coordination Committee, a coalition of private and public school teachers and public sector employees, on Monday pledged a “severe” response against political parties that are blocking the approval of the new wage scale in parliament, reiterating the call for a general strike Wednesday and threatening to boycott official school exams.

“Some school owners have been raising fees since three years under the pretext of the new wage scale while the scale has not been yet approved,” Nehme Mahfoud, the head of the private school teachers union, said during a press conference.

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat announced Sunday that he and Speaker Nabih Berri will take part in Monday's national dialogue session at the Baabda Palace.

“We thoroughly discussed the Arab and regional developments,” Jumblat said after meeting Berri at the speaker's headquarters in Ain al-Tineh. He was accompanied by Health Minister Wael Abou Faour.

President Michel Suleiman is holding on to his call for the political arch-foes to resume the national dialogue despite Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah's hints that the party could boycott the session.

Sources close to Suleiman told An Nahar newspaper published on Sunday that the president insists on resuming the all-party talks, pointing out that there is still time to inquire the stances of all parties before taking any decision to postpone it.

Speaker Nabih Berri's presidential elections committee violates the constitution and aims at closing the doors of the parliament in order to delay the presidential polls, the Saudi Okaz newspaper reported on Sunday.

A political source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told the daily that the three-member committee is to cover-up for Berri's attempt not to call for a session to elect a new president.

Kataeb Party chief Amin Gemayel warned on Saturday that Lebanon is passing through a very difficulty stage, highlighting the need to stage the presidential elections on time.

He said after holding talks on the elections with Speaker Nabih Berri: “The election of a new president will help restore Lebanon's role among the international community.”
