Iran's Ambassador to Beirut Mohammed Fathali stressed that his country's nuclear deal will reflect positively on Lebanon and the region, the state-run National News Agency reported on Saturday.

“The nuclear deal will affect Lebanon and the region positively. We believe that this agreement will pave way for positive atmospheres,” said Fathali after a meeting with Marada leader Suleiman Franjieh on head of a delegation.

Syrian businessman Wahib Merhi slammed media reports that fugitive Hisham Daou, accused of killing Major Rabih Kahil, is under his protection, MTV said on Saturday.

On Friday, MTV reported that Daou has fled Lebanon to the Syrian province of Latakia and is in the custody of Merhi.

For the second consecutive year, more than 30 Lebanese celebrities sang and performed for ONE LEBANON-United for Tomorrow concert but this year in solidarity with the Lebanese army marking the 70th anniversary.

A prominent source of the Free Patriotic Movement warned on Thursday against the consequences of extending the terms of the army commander and the chief of staff, describing the move as a “political trash.”

“Extending the terms of the army chief and the chief of staff will escalate tension and those who insist to violate the constitution will be blamed,” the source told As Safir daily.

An Israeli air strike on a government-held village on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights ceasefire line killed five pro-regime forces, including two Hizbullah members, a monitoring group said on Wednesday.

"An Israeli plane hit a car inside the town of Hader, killing two men from Hizbullah, and three men from the pro-regime popular committees in the town," said Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

British Ambassador Tom Fletcher has stated that a waste crisis similar to that of Lebanon had contributed to the ouster of the UK government in the seventies of the last century, As Safir daily reported on Monday.

Answering a question on the waste crisis and how the UK would have reacted Fletcher said: “The trade unions decided back then to work for three days per week only, which led to the accumulation of waste in the streets of London. That outraged the people and triggered a series of popular protests which led to the fall of government.”

Change and Reform bloc MP Alain Hakim stressed on Sunday that the temporary solution reached in the cabinet on the garbage crisis “proves that the problem did no lie there in the first place,” assuring that the bloc has no intention to obstruct the government’s work during Tuesday's session.

“The temporary solution reached in the cabinet on the waste management crisis proves that the problem did not lie primarily there,” said Aoun.

Prime Minister Tammam Salam is "not kidding" when it comes to his resignation on the backdrop of the governmental crisis, and he will not keep guard for attempts to obstruct cabinet, governmental sources told al-Mustaqbal daily on Sunday.

“Hizbullah and the Free Patriotic Movement have not offered any initiative what so ever on Salam to find a solution for the governmental crisis,” they said.

Residents of the Chouf area of Iqlim al-Kharroub southeast of Beirut blocked the vital Beirut-South highway early Sunday in protest at the environment ministry's decision to transfer the garbage that has been accumulating over the last week to their province, the state-run National News Agency reported.

The residents gathered on the coastal highway in the town of Jiyeh at the junction of Barja and blocked the road in both directions.

Tension was high in the Palestinian refugee camp of Ain el-Hilweh on Saturday following news of the assassination of Fatah official Col. Talal al-Ordoni, a security official said.

"Al-Ordouni was shot dead by two unidentified men while he was walking in the southern part of Ain el-Hilweh," the Palestinian official told Agence France Presse.
