Syrian Observatory: Israeli Strike on Golan Town Kills 2 Hizbullah Fighters

An Israeli air strike on a government-held village on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights ceasefire line killed five pro-regime forces, including two Hizbullah members, a monitoring group said on Wednesday.

"An Israeli plane hit a car inside the town of Hader, killing two men from Hizbullah, and three men from the pro-regime popular committees in the town," said Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

British Ambassador Recalls UK Waste Crisis in '70s

British Ambassador Tom Fletcher has stated that a waste crisis similar to that of Lebanon had contributed to the ouster of the UK government in the seventies of the last century, As Safir daily reported on Monday.

Answering a question on the waste crisis and how the UK would have reacted Fletcher said: “The trade unions decided back then to work for three days per week only, which led to the accumulation of waste in the streets of London. That outraged the people and triggered a series of popular protests which led to the fall of government.”

Residents of the Chouf area of Iqlim al-Kharroub southeast of Beirut blocked the vital Beirut-South highway early Sunday in protest at the environment ministry's decision to transfer the garbage that has been accumulating over the last week to their province, the state-run National News Agency reported.

The residents gathered on the coastal highway in the town of Jiyeh at the junction of Barja and blocked the road in both directions.

Residents of Kfour, Follow Naameh, Prevent Dump Trucks from Unloading

Residents of the southern town of al-Kfour held a sit-in on Wednesday blocking the road leading to the town's landfill and forbidding dump trucks from emptying their loads, the National News Agency said.

“Our sit-in is open until the landfill is closed completely. It has become a source of diseases and insects of various kinds. All the land surrounding the landfill has become barren and the poison accumulating affects all neighboring areas,” the residents of the town that lies in the Nabatieh district complained.
