Beef-Eating Festival in India Turns into Clashes

A beef-eating festival at a university in southern India triggered clashes between rival students as Hindu activists fought with low-caste Dalit groups who had organized the event.

Police fired teargas on Sunday evening to break up the fighting, in which at least five people were injured and two vehicles were set ablaze at the Osmania University in the city of Hyderabad.

Kidnapped Penguin 'Dirk' Rescued From Sharks, Dogs

Dirk, a fairy penguin stolen from an Australian marine park, has been safely returned, but not before being hounded by a dog and chased by another animal, possibly a shark.

Police allege three young men broke into Sea World on Queensland's Gold Coast on Saturday night, swam in the dolphin enclosure and then stole seven-year-old Dirk as they made their escape.

Greek Teen Injured by Easter Bell

A 14-year-old boy on the Greek island of Crete was slightly injured and hospitalized after being hit by a bell clapper, the semi-state Athens News Agency reported on Sunday.

The clapper broke and fell on the boy as the bell was ringing to celebrate Orthodox Easter at a village church near the island capital of Iraklio late on Saturday, ANA said.

Cruise ship passengers and crew said prayers Sunday at the spot in the North Atlantic where the Titanic sank 100 years ago with the loss of more than 1,500 lives.

Passengers lined the decks of MS Balmoral, which has been retracing the route of the doomed voyage. After a moment of silence, three floral wreaths were cast onto the waves as the ship's whistle sounded in the dark.

Man in Germany Calls Police Over Sex-Mad Date

A desperate man in Munich fled onto a balcony and called police for protection after his insatiable companion for a one-night stand refused to let him leave her flat, police said Thursday.

The 43-year-old man had met a woman four years his senior in a bar in the southern German city on Monday and she took him back to her apartment for sex, a police spokesman said in a statement.
