Alonso Says Ferrari Can still Win Title

Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso says the team still expects to fight for the Formula One title this season despite acknowledging the scarlet cars are likely to struggle in the season-opening Australian Grand Prix this weekend.

Alonso said Thursday that this year's car is still not a finished product heading into Friday's first practice session and that the team is behind the likes of Red Bull and McLaren in development.

Dwight Howard, the major subject of transfer talk as the NBA trade deadline nears, scored 24 points and grabbed 25 rebounds to lead the Orlando Magic over Miami 104-98 in over-time.

Jameer Nelson on Tuesday added 25 points, including two layups late in over-time, while J.J. Redick scored 17 points and Ryan Anderson had 16 points and 12 rebounds as Orlando won for the second time in three games with Miami this season.

Qatar Questions Need for Alcohol in WCup Stadiums

Qatar is refusing to say whether it will sell alcohol at stadiums during the 2022 World Cup, although a top official said Wednesday he didn't see the reason for selling it at matches.

Hassan al-Thawadi, general secretary of the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee, said it was an issue that will be discussed with FIFA over the years. He only would say the country was aiming to put on an event where "everyone will be able to have a great time, have fun and be exposed to Qatari culture."

Indonesia on Brink of FIFA Sanctions

Indonesia's troubled football association said Tuesday it would try and resolve a crisis in its top-tier competition, with a deadline imposed by FIFA just one week away.

FIFA gave the association (PSSI) until March 20 to resolve a string of problems triggered by the revival of an unofficial breakaway elite league, which split the country's best clubs over two competitions.

The 31-year-old Italian was a set down (6-2) in her third round match against Czech Lucie Safarova when she packed it in Monday, joining several others who have withdrawn or retired because of a virus, tournament officials said Monday.
