Doctors Without Borders (MSF) said Wednesday it will open a hospital for Syrian refugee children at the Zaatari camp in northern Jordan, which complains its healthcare services are already burdened.

"MSF is now coordinating with the government to open the hospital in Zaatari in two weeks," Antoine Foucher, head of the organization in the kingdom, told Health Minister Abullatif Wreikat, the official Petra news agency reported.

Syrian rebels took control of most of a strategic army base in northern Syria after a fierce firefight with President Bashar Assad's forces on Wednesday, a monitoring group said.

The military complex, known as Base 80, is tasked with securing the nearby Aleppo international airport as well as the Nayrab military airport.

Qatar has handed the Syrian embassy building in Doha to the National Coalition, Syria's main opposition group, a statement said on Wednesday.

"Qatar has decided to hand over the Syrian embassy building in Doha to Mr Nizar al-Haraki after his appointment as ambassador to Doha for the National Coalition," the Coalition statement said.

Russia is still delivering military hardware to the Syrian regime of President Bashar Assad including air defense systems, the head of Russia's arms export agency said Wednesday.

"We are continuing to fulfill our obligations on contracts for the delivery of military hardware," Rosoboronexport chief Anatoly Isaikin said quoted by the Interfax news agency. He said the deliveries included anti-missile air defense systems and repair equipment but not attack weapons or aircraft.

The residents of northern border towns blocked the roads that lead to Syria on Wednesday to prevent fuel tanker trucks from crossing into the country, the state-run National News Agency reported.

NNA said protesters from the town of Arida that has a crossing with Syria blocked the international highway with rocks and barbed wires in the morning over the alleged smuggling of oil and diesel. They reopened it around 2:00 pm after MP Moeen al-Merehbi negotiated with them.

U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday condemned a deadly blast in a minibus on the Turkey-Syria border amid concern that violence in Syria would spill over to its neighbors, a spokesman said.

The vehicle exploded on Monday in the buffer zone between Turkey's Cilvegozu border crossing and Syria's Bab al-Hawa post, which was seized by Syrian rebels in July. Fourteen people died.

Al-Watan Saudi newspaper published on Tuesday a caricature criticizing Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi's visit to Syria, which sparked popular outrage on social media websites.

Jihad Awrati's caricature replaced al-Rahi's mitre with a rocket and highlighted the common letters between the patriarch and the Syrian president's names in Arabic.

The death toll from the Syria civil war is nearing 70,000, U.N. rights chief Navi Pillay said Tuesday as she again condemned the U.N. Security Council's failure to agree action on the conflict.

Pillay announced only last month that the toll had reached 60,000. "That figure is now probably approaching 70,000," Pillay told a Security Council meeting on protecting civilians in conflict.

The Energy Ministry announced on Tuesday that fuel tankers captured transporting oil to Syria are filled by private companies, stressing that the cabinet is not committed to the sanctions imposed on the neighboring country.

"All matters related to exporting fuel from the ministry's reservoirs in the Tripoli and al-Zahrani refineries are strictly under its powers,” the ministry said in a released statement.

Syria's President Bashar Assad said Tuesday state institutions and the country's citizens must engage in a "collective effort" to ease the effects of the spiraling war, state news agency SANA said.

Assad made his call during a first meeting with his government after a reshuffle of five ministerial posts on Saturday.
