Lebanese Democratic Party leader Talal Arslan held talks with Syrian President Bashar Assad in Damascus on Sunday, the state-run National News Agency reported.

NNA said Arslan discussed with Assad the latest developments in Lebanon, Syria and the region.

Three Lebanese Shiites have been killed in fighting in Syria, a Hizbullah official said Sunday, as the Syrian opposition accused the Lebanese group of intervening on the side of the regime.

"Two Lebanese Shiites living in Syria were killed and at least 14 others wounded in clashes with rebels," the official told Agence France Presse on condition of anonymity, later adding that one of the wounded had also died.

The U.N. rights chief said Saturday that the international community was hesitating to take action on Syria because countries were weighing up whether any military intervention would be worth it.

Urging that some sort of international action be taken against Syrian President Bashar Assad, Navi Pillay repeated her call for him to be investigated for "crimes against humanity and war crimes.”

Prime Minister Najib Miqati stressed on Saturday that the Lebanese government respects the sovereignty of all countries, in particular, the Arab states.

“The government doesn't interfere in the local affairs of other Arab states and considers all the political rhetoric expresses the opinion of those who say them,” Miqati said in a telephone conversation with Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour.

The Israeli army on Saturday evacuated seven Syrians wounded in clashes on the Golan Heights and took them to a hospital inside the Jewish state, where they were being treated for their injuries.

A spokeswoman for the Ziv hospital in Safed told Agence France Presse the army had on Saturday afternoon brought in seven wounded people, all of whom have been operated on.

Hizbullah Chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah lashed out on Saturday at ex-Prime Minister Saad Hariri, accusing him of trying to strike a settlement over backing him for the premiership, expressing his support to the Orthodox Gathering electoral draft-law.

“You proposed to neutralize the arms of the resistance if we agreed to support you as a premier,” Nasrallah said in a televised speech commemorating Hizbullah’s “martyr leaders.”

More than 300 people were abducted by armed groups in northwestern Syria over two days in an unprecedented string of sectarian kidnappings, a watchdog and residents said on Saturday.

The spate of abductions, involving large numbers of women and children, began on Thursday when upwards of 40 civilians from the majority-Shiite villages of Fua and Kafraya were kidnapped by armed groups in Idlib province.

Clashes erupted at dawn on Saturday around Aleppo airport and a nearby airbase, as Syrian troops bombarded the Golan ceasefire zone bordering Israel in response to rebel attacks, a watchdog said.

The rebel fighters "clashed with government troops in the vicinity of Aleppo international airport and Nayrab military airbase on Saturday morning as shelling was heard in the area," said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian on Saturday called for urgent action to bring about a power transfer in Syria that excludes President Bashar Assad.

"Given the enormous price paid already by the Syrian people... it is more urgent than ever to act to overcome differences in favor of a political transition," Le Drian told a security forum in the United Arab Emirates.

Obstacles are blocking attempts by former Prime Minister Saad Hariri to return to Lebanon, media reports said on Saturday, as the situation in the neighboring country Syria is expected to have a “strong” impact on Lebanon which may prompt the postponement of the upcoming parliamentary elections.

“Hariri is receiving advises from local, regional and international security agencies not to return to Lebanon,” al-Joumhouria newspaper reported.
