FSA Resumes Mediation on Kidnapped Pilgrims, Saqr Says Hizbullah Disapproves a Release via Hariri

The rebel Free Syrian Army announced on Wednesday that it has resumed its mediation concerning the Lebanese abductees in Syria's Aazaz at the request of ex-Prime Minister Saad Hariri.

“(The head of the FSA) Riad al-Asaad has worked very hard on this issue and al-Farouq battalion even surrendered its weapons to release the kidnapped Lebanese,” al-Mustaqbal bloc MP Oqab Saqr said in an interview on Future TV.

Gemayel: We're Not Maneuvering over Orthodox Gathering Law, Meddling in Syria Conflict Imports War to Beirut

Phalange Party leader Amin Gemayel on Wednesday stressed that his party is not “maneuvering” by throwing its support behind the electoral law proposed by the Orthodox Gathering, warning that any Lebanese involvement in the Syrian conflict would bring the war to the streets of Beirut, Tripoli and Sidon.

“We're not maneuvering concerning the Orthodox Gathering law and we don't do anything we're not convinced of. We're insisting on it and there is a debate in parliament and if anyone proposes a better law that receives the broadest Lebanese approval, no one will reject that,” Gemayel said in an interview on al-Manar television.

Roknabadi Says Iran Wants to Isolate Lebanon from Syria's Turmoil

Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon Ghazanfar Roknabadi said on Wednesday that his country is trying protect Lebanon from the consequences of Syria's ongoing internal conflict.

"Iran wants to share its initiative to end Syria's turmoil,” Roknabadi revealed after meeting with former Prime Minister Fouad Saniora, adding that he also discussed with the al-Mustaqbal bloc leader Syrian President Bashar Assad's suggestion of ending the military conflicts and finding a peaceful solution out of the war.

U.N.: One Million More Syrians to Receive Aid

The U.N.'s World Food Program said Wednesday it would quickly try to distribute aid to an additional one million Syrians after Damascus gave the green light for the body to work with local aid organizations to reach more of those in need.

Until now most of the agency's food aid was delivered through the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, which was overstretched and only able to provide help to some 1.5 million Syrians in the war-torn country a month.

Car Bombs Kill 22 in Syria's Idlib as 103 Killed Nationwide

Twin car bombs killed at least 22 people in the Syrian city of Idlib on Wednesday as universities nationwide held a day of mourning for 87 people killed in explosions on the student campus in second city Aleppo.

The bombings had the hallmarks of operations staged by the jihadist al-Nusra Front, a rebel group with a strong presence on the ground in northwestern Syria and blacklisted by the United States as a "terrorist" organization.

Syrian Refugee Father of Four Hangs Himself in Ain el-Hilweh

Desperate and unable to provide for his wife and four daughters, a Syrian refugee who swapped deadly violence in Damascus for destitution in Lebanon hanged himself on Tuesday.

"He told us he was going to buy dinner for the children. Later, we searched for him in the house, and found him hanging from a noose upstairs," said his wife Rima Bakkar, who suffered a nervous breakdown after finding her husband dead.

Toll from Aleppo Blasts Rises to 87

The death toll from twin blasts that tore through the campus of Aleppo university has risen to 87, a watchdog said on Wednesday, making the attack one of the bloodiest in Syria's 22-month conflict.

No one has claimed responsibility for the blasts that rocked the university in Syria's northern commercial capital as students were sitting for their exams on Tuesday, but the government and rebels have blamed each other.

Israel reiterated concerns that the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad might transfer its chemical weapons to Hizbuulah, urging the international community to prevent such an act.
