Free Patriotic Movement chief MP Jebran Bassil held talks Monday at the Foreign Ministry with Lebanese Democratic Party leader MP Talal Arslan.

The meeting comes after Arslan was dismayed by remarks deemed insulting to the “Druze martyrs” of the civil war which have been voiced by senior FPM official Naji Hayek.

Minister of the Displaced Talal Arslan condemned on Monday a dispute that erupted between supporters of the Progressive Socialist Party and Hizbullah over raising party flags in the Choueifat area and stressed that his party adheres to civil peace.

MP Talal Arslan stated on Sunday that the landfill plan to solve the months long trash management crisis will “explode” in the face of the government, stressing that opening the Costa Brava landfill does not mean that it will be used “randomly.”

“The government plan to open landfills will explode in its face. The state cannot act randomly in using the Costa Brava landfill because we will be watching each stone that will be thrown there,” said Arslan in a press conference.

He told the daily: “Some complications remain and some clarifications need to be made over the problem and they should be overcome today.”

Progressive Socialist Party chief MP Walid Jumblat sought on Thursday to limit any possible tension that could emerge over the killing of Sheikh Wahid al-Balous, a prominent Druze cleric in Syria.
